Yeah. I kind of get what you mean. Cus like, how far does creating a sentient being make them your child? Can you choose to what degree that's true? Am I just impressing human expectations on that relationship?
But then again, is Ellen doing the same? Cus, you know, ROBOTS. And it's not like Tigh remembers.
Basically I agree it's MUCH more ALL GREEK TO ME than MELROSE SPACE. I kind of love the messy cylon family in its parallels to a pantheon of gods because the "incest" strikes me as very similar. It's like...not really so gross/an issue unless you need it to be for the story - i.e. the awesome twistedness of what Cavil did to Ellen where clearly his visual similarity to her father and her status as his creator are...definitely issues and creepy ones because of the way both of the characters react and think about it and why they did it.
But something like Tyrol/Boomer or Tigh/Caprica doesn't really bother me in anything like the same way. Or something. Anyway, now I'm actually seriously discussing my crack!family tree. Which is never a good sign.
I am fascinated by your point about Starbuck and the son/father split there. I'd TOTALLY never considered anything like that. I'm also not sure how I feel about it, but there's...definitely something interesting in that. I need to think about it more, definitely.
