Yeah I honestly believe that Walter doesn't remember half this shit due to the missing pieces of his brain and more than that just the fact he went kind of crazy. They play on that less than they did before because he's recovering to a degree, and maybe he remembers more now than he used to, but I think that footage he watched of Olive at the end of the episode when she turned the lights out with her mind was genuinely the first time he remembered any of it. I really believed him when Olivia was demanded an explanation in the cake shop and Walter was crying that he couldn't remember why he did it to her. But yeah, this makes it worse. I don't know if it's worse he doesn't remember or worse if he did but it's definitely worse.
I think that the backstory for Peter as to why he became a con man is pretty brilliant actually. Like you say, his whole life is a con. His first long con is the one he plays on himself. But...I still can't get past the part where Peter works as a character on paper, but somehow on screen, I just...can't connect the dots. I wish I could, but I can't. *flaps hands*
I agree that most of Walter's reasoning behind standing up for Olivia is probably guilt based on his wife's comments. We've seen quite a few times when Walter has to be guilted into the right course of action. It's interesting to consider other possibilities, but I think that was probably the biggest conscious one at any rate.
I definitely think Olivia probably has some unresolved issues with her mother for not acting to get them out of that situation.
Regarding Abrams, it's interesting that he's not actually actively running this show. He just pitches a bunch of ideas at the start of the season that Pinkner and Wyman can use if they want to, apparently. But hey, maybe the epic overused romance was one of his pitches. ;)
I didn't realise Orla Brady was on Mistresses! But yes, she's TOTALLY fantastic and needs to be on more. Especially since she's ALIVE on the other side. I always felt bad for her that she got her son back for a day and then he left without a word of goodbye, but now I feel even worse.
