Yes! The later stories still have that, though as she becomes more competent and confident you see different sides of her but there's always that sense to the whole book, it's lovely.

Damian is a character I have complicated feelings about. He's sort of in the same situation in that he was raised by his mother and grandfather as part of the League of Assassins so he's like a 10 year old stab-happy killer who's now living with Dick Grayson who's trying to like, fix him, I guess. It's difficult because I understand what they're trying to do with him - he never really had a childhood, he's been turned into a killer who believes he's nobility (well his mother and grandfather sort of are) and therefore like, looks down on everyone, but he does that because he's terrified of failure and his skills are all he has. And I think we're supposed to feel for him even though he behaves like a dick? And that...more or less works within the scope of this book because Steph kind of hates him too but also tries to look after him so he does fit into the pattern of orphaned children trying to find new places in new worlds and not always managing it with grace.

But frankly I...don't think the character is that well-executed. I've read him briefly in other comics and he's just dislikeable which is hard to achieve in a ten year old orphan. I guess I just think he's a...hard character to write for.

Anyway, MASSIVE TANGENT AHOY. ;)

But I'm so thrilled to know someone else loves this comic and knows what I'm talking about! ♥
