I really love how you teased out the different threads of "sideways" throughout the ep. You've put a finger on the thing about the show that's working so well for me this season, now they've finally, finally gotten around to reintegrating all the storylines and remembered how complex all these characters are. Having lived through one or two apocalypses, everyone's coming to their own personal day of reckoning, and they're all verering off in unexpected directions.

Y'know, I watched this, and I read various reactions to this, but your post was what made it click for me - that Adama was angry because he'd been terrified for Kara, and he was lashing out. He was a scared parent, and he was having a tantrum, too.
and then he probably goes and gets drunk in his cabin.
Yes. This. (And I'm not sure if I'm mad at Lee, despite the gorgeous farewell, for leaving Kara when his father stood by her? I have various handwavey thoughts, but anyway.)
It's now, when they're on such completely opposite sides of the metaphysical universe, that they are free to simply be who they are. (...) There's just that other person who they love, adrift, asking for reassurance.
Oh. So gorgeous, this interpretation. Especially from a non-shipper.
Tigh's sudden willingness to view Tory's person as an asset: almost as a machine.
I tend to agree with this - I feel that even though Tigh now knows he's a Cylon, he still in some part of his brain thinks of Cylons as things, not sentient beings, and so he has no qualms about sending Tory in as bait. Then again, he had no qualms about sending Duck to his death, so maybe that's not his reasoning. *shrugs*
