I'm not sure. While I'm worried about the Chief's mental attitude, later episodes do show him connecting again with his son, and Nicky is someone who will never abandon him just because he's a cylon and a relationship that is completely accepting on at least one side. Plus parent-child is kind of a bond you can't decide you're through with because it's difficult. So I think of all of them, he's the most stable right now in terms of connections to the realworld, even if not in his own head.

In some ways I also feel that he's been through his breakdown and come out the other side. And sure, that side's given us a weird, zenlike, I will laugh at the apocalypse version of Tyrol but he's not running around having existential crises anymore. He's at some weird sort of peace with his identity and whatever happens to him, and I really think he does love his son.

Which is why now I will snuggle him. When prior to 4x06, I would have patted him gently with an extended arm, nervously. ;)
