BSG Webisodes: Plea to my American Comrades!

So, if anyone hasn't heard yet, Amazon has entertainingly released all the webisodes (for some reason minus the ninth, but including the tenth) on their site here:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html?docId=1000128561

It's one of those hateful "You are not in America! You may not watch!" jobs, though. So I can't watch them.

Some kind soul has uploaded 6 - 8 onto YouTube, but no sign of the 10th (or 9th but that makes sense since I don't think 9 is up on Amazon either).

If anyone has seen the 10th webisode could you give me a summary or something? Pretty please?

(Obviously, fair warning, I am hoping for webisode spoilers in the comments!)

THANK YOU FAIR AMERICANS!

OMG THANK YOU! XD

My first thought is that if the ending is Gaeta going to warn Zarek that the cylons are like, crazy motherfrakkers and fucking with the truce or something, it might actually be a good thing we got these webisodes to explain why Gaeta made that choice.

That said, I really hope that webisode 9 somehow magically makes the decision to not only have Sweet Eight be the murderer on the raptor (which I'm cool with even if I do have to stretch to believe that the people on the raptor would rather die in space than let her try to talk to the computer), but to also have her being all EVOL on New Caprica be unlame. Because like...complexities, people! Revealing that she both tried to save people on New Caprica and fucked things over royally here is interesting. That she was just psychonuts the whole time? Less so. Especially since she's the first Eight we've seen demonstrate any individuality that didn't somehow stem from Boomer's fake memories.

Except now I'm babbling and webisode ten actually sounds pretty cool and interesting. HOORAY FOR MORE TIGH. I WUB HIM SO. HOORAY FOR MENTIONS OF TYROL. HOORAY FOR THROWING CYLONICITY IN TIGH'S FACE.

I'm a little confused by your last line - is he saying he'll protect Hoshi but if the crazy sekrit plan he's about to enact doesn't work out he's on his own, or is he like, badass semi-breaking up with him like, "if we don't work out then you're on your own," or...something to explain why they never have any scenes together in 4.5 or somesuch?

*bounces*

THANK YOU AGAIN!

Arrgh, I thought the same thing! I like her being the killer now for really fucked-up logical reasons. That she was *also* a killer on New Caprica for no apparent reason stretched it too far for me and made her kind of a caricature. EVIL IS NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR MOTIVATION, PEOPLE. You'd think Tricia Helfer had taught them SOMETHING by now. :p

(Then again, I still prefer my original idea where Eight plays it off like the last person she killed was the Real Killer and she was just defending herself. And it's creepy enough that Gaeta ends up killing her, but it's left disturbingly open-ended what really did happen.)

Okay, *I* was confused by the last Gaeta/Hoshi bit, but I think he's basically telling him:

a) If sekrit plan works, I'll look out for you
b) If sekrit plan doesn't work, stay away from me

But either way, I think the tone comes off a little harsh, like it would explain why they're not seen together anymore in 4.5.

She totally needs to start her own school. "Tricia Helfer's School for Motivationally Challenged Villainesses." She could like, teach them how to sekritly emote on camera when the writers weren't looking and stuff.

Your original idea is awesome! The only other way that immediately comes to mind to "save" it (I don't like assuming it'll need saving without having seen it) is if Eight's lying about having killed those people on New Caprica, and is just doing it to make it easier for Gaeta to kill her like she knows he has to because a) he knows she murdered everyone and b) she wants her sweet Gaeta to have more life-saving oxygen. Or something. Which kind of reduces her to yet another Eight desperately seeking LURVE because that's all women are GOOD FOR (arguably) but at the same time at least does so with complexity, instead of going with other easy tropes with no complexity.

Having finally seen the tenth webisode, I concur with your assessment. It didn't sound to me like it was a break-up but it did sound to me like it was a "I'm saddling up for WAR boy, and I can't take nobody with me, so keep your pretty head down and I'll come home to you. If I can (be bothered)."

Like, I'm still really happy that we have a healthy (well, at least pre-EVEN-MOAR-PTSD) homosexual relationship on the show, and that Gaeta got a nice significant other. However, I'm still concerned that both of the gay relationships we've seen have been metatextually closeted. :/

Up until the last minute I thought the webisodes were pointless, but it seems it was all a way of establishing why Gaeta would go to Zarek and help to overthrow the government. I still have a couple problems with this though. Shouldn't this be addressed during the regular season? Will we have a scene where Gaeta explains why he's making this choice or were they relying on everyone watching the webisodes?

I also think this grand plan to take the fleet back is doomed to failure. Even a damaged basestar is one hell of a weapon and it's parked in the middle of the fleet. Can Zarek say "Go away" and the Sixs, Sharons, and Leobens are just going to do it? At least they've established Zarek has a history of acting without really thinking his plans through and Gaeta is acting on emotion so I can see them going ahead with their plan and ultimately have it blow up in their faces. I have a suspicion Zarek will not live until the end of the series...and Lee being Laura's VP would be my dream come true. ;)

I'm presuming - or hoping - that Webisode 9 is key to explaining why this Sharon model did what she did. Maybe we'll find out that Boomer was not the only one to split from her model line? And that the 'flaws' in the eights that Six has referred to are more profound then we thought.

I guess I'll wait until I see how it plays in 4.5. The webisodes weren't written until the telemovie was being played, so I think that the episodes were at least written without the webisodes in mind.

If it plays like Jammer and Duck at the start of S3 I'll be okay with it. It was a plot point that benefitted from the webisodes but didn't need them. We'll have to see how well-grounded Gaeta's decision is within the context of the episodes themselves.

If, of course, Gaeta gives different or vaguer reasons for his decision in the series, and this was just retconned in later, it might also work kind of poorly.

Like, I'd be cool with it because my other fandom is Star Wars where we live for retcons. Like, the biggest speculation for each book release tends to concern whether they'll introduce new retcons for stuff that needs better justification. But I don't imagine it'll fly so well in BSG fandom. So...we'll see.

/cranky old woman.

I would LOVE IT if webisode 9 addressed more of the issues about the Eight line. I especially like your idea that maybe the "flaws" in the line aren't just Six talking smack. It seems a shame not to explore that since this is the first Eight to show any individuality not stemming from Boomer, and that's not something we've seen in any other model except Six. We can't even be sure D'anna counts since we didn't see any of the rest of her for comparison.

I had a D'Anna revelation while watching 'Downloaded'! You recall in 'Rapture' where she's imagining/projecting the opera house and she apologizes to one of the cloaked figures? I'm thinking it's Anders. She was about to shoot the guy in 'Downloaded' until Caprica cracked her head with a block of cement. She had had contact with Tigh and Tyrol, not sure about Tory, but she hadn't almost killed them before.

[identity profile] beccatoria.livejournal.com 2009-01-01 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
Yup! I actually already had that revelation I think while vidding Ladies' Choice because I had to rewatch that scene, and I totally meant to mention it here but forgot!

I remember at the time people speculated she was apologising to Tigh for the eye incident, but I think it being Anders' cus she was gonna kill him makes so much more sense.

YAY for continuity! XD

This is why it's our duty to keep rewatching the series. We continue to pick up on new connections!
