If you want some fun, escapist fair, I could recommend Castle and Leverage, but I don't know of anything but TSCC that fits what you are most interested in watching. Stargate has a few of the aspects you are looking for, but often times the show would approach a big issue and then run from it or push a reset button. It's a show you really just need to watch for the characters.
