Vidding! I'm doing it!

Wow. I'm vidding again. It's...weird. I did a very little bit about a week ago on this project, but now I'm like...spending hours VIDDING again and it's...weird.

Mostly weird because I'm not rusty in one sense - I've been working with editing together footage for the past three or four months all the damn time, but also I wasn't quite ready for how unfamiliar this particular sort of editing would feel. Even though, like I said, I don't exactly feel rusty. More...sideways. Huh.

It probably also doesn't help that I'm vidding something other than BSG for once (Farscape, John Crichton and his obsession with guns and weapons of mass destruction, for the curious) and I'm not so aware of the clips as I would like/once was, plus I'm having to get used to the lack of native camera movement in a vid that could really use it.

I'm certainly not done with BSG vidding. I still have about a billion vid bunnies for it, though weirdly (or perhaps not at all weirdly) a lot of the old vid bunnies I had died and got replaced by new vid bunnies in the wake of the finale. (Though only one of them is a meta-critical-of-the-ending type of thing, the rest are just...vids for BSG just...not the ones I wanted to make before).

But hey.

Maybe I'm growing as a vidder. o_O

There is a point: VIDDING! Good for you. I need to get back to it too. :-)

I tried vidding outside of BSG once. I think you really, really have to adore the source. The other show. And simply, there isn't another show I love enough to wrestle with its source for hours.

I do have this AU vid bunny, though. (Meaning multi-fandom, kinda, and of varied source.) I have to work on that. :-)

I've actually vidded Farscape before - it was my first ever vid! (OMGEMBARASSING! :p) But I started vidding right at the very end of my active participation in Farscape fandom so there was only ever that one vid, and one other vid I made out of a TV mini series called Neverwhere which was shorter so it was easier to know the source (only 3 hours). I agree though - it has to be source you're passionate enough about to know well and rewatch. I used to know Farscape ridiculously well but it's been years so I'm having to do more rewatching than I thought I would.

YAY. I highly approve of everything in this post. I had exactly the same experience re: BSG vid bunnies. I had a bunch, threw them all out during 4.5, and got new ones. And made one, obvs. But over the weekend I started dabbling in a vid for TSCC; I hardly have anything done for lack of time but I can already tell that IT VIDS ITSELF. I'm in so much flaily love that I don't know what to do with myself! It's fun and challenging and joyful in way that BSG has just totally stopped being. And now I sort of suspect that I may not ever get back to the vast majority of those BSG vid bunnies, cause I'm not sure BSG will ever be fun like that again. I may make one or two down the line, after I get some other shows out of my system, but. . .it'll probably never be my primary vidding show again? Which I'm. . . very okay with, in ways that I think maybe you wouldn't be. Anyway, the real poing is yay, vids! And I can't wait to see whatever you come out with. :)

TSCC VIDS!!

I had a vid bunny for that but I'm not sure I still have it. It was going to be a...quieter vid than I feel I could in good conscience make given the EPIC nature of the finale. I'd like to vid TSCC at some point but I feel uncertain of my familiarity with the source and also lack a really awesome idea. Though I am on the lookout for one.

I'm very excited that you're vidding again, especially in a fandom I share!

Although it does make me sad to think of all the BSG vids that won't get made by you now. I'd bug you about that but after you made a BSR vid (which I still stubbornly insist on thinking of as a present for meeeeeeee!) I quite happily waive my right to be disappointed with or criticise any of your vidding decisions! Though I do hope that those bunnies get made eventually with distance and time if only because unmade bunnies make baby half-robot Jesus cry!

And I can't wait to see whatever you come out with. :)

Clearly we await each other's baby-steps-out-of-BSG-vidding with anticipation!
