NaViMaMo Vidlet: My Love, the Astronaut [Doctor Song, um, Who]

For [livejournal.com profile] ladymercury_10! So, obviously this song was supposed to be from River's POV. Therefore I decided to give it to the Doctor. I think I thought I was being subversive...

Title: My Love, the Astronaut
Video: Doctor Who
Audio: Astronaut // Amanda Palmer
Summary: The Doctor is in love with an astronaut.

YAY! Thank you so much! It's quite lovely, and the "subversive" take on it is really interesting!

\o/ You're very welcome - and I'm glad you liked it and found it interesting! :D

AWESOME. Crashy piano! Superb editing, as usual, grabbing perfect little snippets or expressions or bits of motion, especially Eleventy's physicality. I love how you incorporated the fact that she might have killed him as part of the distance in the lyrics. Plus random frantic action! FLYING IN THE FACE OF SCIENCE. Rules of time are for people who are not River Song. <3

CRASHY PIANO! :D It makes me happy. Thank you - I'm glad you liked it. I love the way Eleventy moves - he's like clumsy and graceful at the same time. And the lyrics were just too perfect not be go with the whole suggested death thing.

Rules of time are for people who are not River Song. <3

THIS STATEMENT IS TRUFAX.

Interesting song choice. I love how the strength in the song is reflected in the characters and the editing.

Yes, the song choice was very interesting and musically striking - I'm glad you think I made good use of it. I'm ashamed to admit that I hadn't ever really listened to any Amanda Palmer before getting this prompt, but I found this pretty interesting; there's a real dearth of female singers who go for power and character over glossy finish.

Oh I love the flipping around, because in many ways River is much more the astronaut - she's the one coming and going, with the Doctor securely settled in his TARDIS. :)

Yay! :D I'm glad you like it. And yes, while the Doctor is far more the "astronaut" objectively because his life is probably more unsettled than River's, who at least maintains ties to institutions (either penal or educational!), because we always follow the Doctor, from a meta POV she becomes more err, astronauty. And she's probably the only person the Doctor has ever met who can make him feel that way!

This one is weird for me, because I love this song and have listened to it way too many times (despite not really caring much for some stuff Amanda Palmer has done/said).

Anyway this is a really interesting take on it. I like how you reversed it and made River the astronaut with the Doctor professing his feelings for her. Love the little touches that fit so well with the lyrics as well.

Yes, it's definitely always strange to see a you're very familiar with used in a new context in a vid. It doesn't happen to me as often as it probably should because I have an awful knowledge of popular music, but it has happened to me. I've actually never really heart much Amanda Palmer, so I came to the song cold, but I did love her voice and the dynamic use of the percussive piano.

I'm glad the reversal works for you. I had a fun time vidding that; River is so open about her feelings about him, even though she can't really say anything yet, but the Doctor's feelings are...much more rooted in subtext, at least "officially", but that subtext is so clear to me it was fun to pull it to the forefront.

The Doctor's getting beaten at his own game and he loves it. :D

Ahahaaha, I know. It's so adorkable. :D

RIVER!!!

I really like what you did with this. The song really works, flipping the POV was a great decision and I loved the fast cuts at the end. Brilliant work. :)

Dammit, why do I not have a River icon?
