Oh wow. I really loved this. Such a great look at season 4.

Thanks so much for sharing! I'll be downloading the big, shiny version. :)

Yay! Thank you for the feedback, I'm so glad you enjoyed it!

That was awesome! I especially loved the instrumental part.

[identity profile] beccatoria.livejournal.com 2008-06-26 12:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I'm glad the instrumental flashback part worked!

Damn. This was really well-made. I can see how much thought you put into the lyrics/images and I really appreciated that. Great song choice.

[identity profile] beccatoria.livejournal.com 2008-06-26 12:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I'm really glad the lyrics worked with the images. I knew they worked for me but since they were a little surreal it's nice to hear they worked for others too!

[identity profile] coffeejunkii.livejournal.com 2008-06-26 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
oh man, those snippets from the mini-series and s1 just about killed me! they all seem so much younger there, and with so much more hope [which is kind of crazy to say because bsg was dark from the beginning].

i have to watch this a few more times to really get all the connections, but i really like this a lot.

[identity profile] beccatoria.livejournal.com 2008-06-26 12:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I know exactly what you mean by the hope! Crazy to think that it was "hopeful" by comparison, huh?

But thank you so much for taking the time to leave feedback and I'm so glad you enjoyed it!

This is gorgeous =D

Thank you!! :D

Song choooiiiice!! So apt! Love, love, love what you did with Trust none of what you hear/And less of what you see, and the flashes of where it all led to with This is what will be. I could go on. Okay one more. Pairing Natalie's death and the destruction of the Hub with And the freedom that you sought/Driftin' like a ghost amongst the trees was a bit of brilliance.

[identity profile] beccatoria.livejournal.com 2008-06-26 12:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay! So wonderful to hear it worked for you. Actually the Natalie & the Hub lyrics were the lyrics that first screamed in my head that I had to turn it into a season 4 BSG vid, so it's especially nice that you liked that part. ;)

Oh, this is really beautiful! The song choice is perfect and your clip choice was perfect!

Thank you so much for taking the time to let me know you liked it!

Really interesting look at season 4; like everyone else, I love the use of the footage of the miniseries to see how far they've come since the beginning. Strange that it does seem young and hopeful, considering how dark the mini was!

[identity profile] beccatoria.livejournal.com 2008-06-26 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I'm really glad the mini series footage is working for people - it seemed such a perfect bridge but I worried it was too long. I think perhaps it seems hopeful because it's largely footage from before the explosions and from afterwards, I tried to go with quiet beats, character moments, comfort, or desire for comfort?

Either way, thanks again for dropping by and leaving some feedback. I really appreciate it.

Extremely cool time toggling on Tory straddling Sam. I love a good time toggle. On Kara's fist too. Great pulling together of the series with the structuring.

OMG yay you noticed! Srsly, the wars I had with WMM to make this thing! I need a better vidding program...

Thank you so much for taking the time to let me know what you thought!

WMM sucks out loud. I'd recommend Sony Vegas for the next step.

Thanks for the advice. If I ever get over my fear of New Things I'll definitely consider checking out Sony Vegas.

Becca, this is utterly magnificent. It brought tears to my eyes -- the song could not be more perfect. I really admire the editing, the quick fades and the use of movement. And the way you used chronology, moving back and forth and bringing out nostalgia for the apocalypse - those S1 images just about broke my heart.

This is joining the ranks of my favourite BSG vids already; I can feel it taking up residence in my head, articulating many of the things that moved me most about S4 (and more).

There are a lot of connections between this and my Cylon vid (which is crawling along), which is probably part of why it affected me so deeply. But not as big a part ast it being a TOTALLY AMAZING VID.

::blushes::

Wow, thank you for such high praise. I'm so glad it spoke to you. Especially that it works so well for you as a...picture of season four. I suppose that's what this vid is: the season four I was watching?

Anyway, really, thank you, your feedback means a huge amount for me. And I CANNOT WAIT for your Cylon vid, though I approve of you taking the time to get it right...grudgingly. I'm even more interested to watch it knowing that there are connections with this vid.

Awesome! Who knew Bruce was such a poet (actually I did know that). There should be more to say, trees and rivers and trees and death, the season death catches up with them, so say we all, death of hope but it's late and incoherent and thank you.

Who knew you were such a poet. Thank you.

I really enjoyed this vid. And I especially liked the parts with Natalie. I have a soft spot for the Sixes this season. Thanks for sharing this!

[identity profile] beccatoria.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 10:40 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! And OMG NATALIE! ::hearts:: I was so sad when she died. :(

[identity profile] anni-erie.livejournal.com 2008-06-29 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow! Great vid! I loved the constrast of where they are now to way back in the miniseries. It's funny to think where you THOUGHT they'd end up in the last season when you were watching the miniseries and where they must've thought they'd end up. The song was really perfect for the vid too.

[identity profile] beccatoria.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 10:44 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

It's really wonderful of you to take the time to leave feedback. I'm especially glad the flashback sequence worked for you: it has the same effect on me - a sort of nostalgia mixed with a sense of strange, sad surprise at the way things turned out.

Thanks again, and I'm glad you enjoyed it!

I keep wanting to write you proper FB for this, which it would deserve, and then I don't get around to it and then I never say anything, and that sucks even more. So here's the non-proper FB: this is awesome, both gorgeous and thinky. And again a wonderful song I'm glad to have come across.

[identity profile] beccatoria.livejournal.com 2008-07-03 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, thank you! I'm glad to have made a video that introduced you to a new song as well as enteraining you. And whatever feedback you have the time and inclination to leave is deeply appreciated; thanks for letting me know you liked it. :D

recced! I said: In addition to its elegant distillation of S4's key moments and themes, this piece is notable for contrasting them with a heartbreaking montage of earlier BSG scenes, and for an ingenious use of the final episode's final shot (interspersed throughout on the refrain). It's also technically dazzling, and could be taken as an exemplar of Windows Movie Maker vidding. WMM offers a very limited palette of capabilities, but Becka pushes them to their limits, perfecting the rhythm with extensive time toggles.
