Sweet Jesus, I Hate Bill O'Reilly
Dec. 14th, 2006 05:43 pmNo, seriously, it is approaching the level of hate I had previously reserved for the man who's made me spend the last five years of my life ashamed of where I'm from, and you know, choose between announcing it (and thus being forced to either join in the lynching and legitimise it or trying to defend the indefensible), or shutting the hell up and listening to how lazy, fat and ignorant we all are, how much everyone "can't stand" us. Which would perhaps bother me less if it didn't strike me as "Wow, it's fun to hate someone - look! It's politically okay to hate americans now! In fact it's cool! Goddamn yanks, do you know most of them couldn't point out Switzerland on a map and have never left their country?"
Um.
Yes, if I'm going to be bitter, I should rage about the things pertinent to the post. Namely:

RISE OF THE MACHINES!!! Dun dun DUUUUN!
Um. Yes. Right. Okay.
Wonderfully "fair and balanced" lead in there, Bill. "IS THIS CHILD ABUSE?" And also, "Well you know if 'this stuff' is going on, other stuff is going on too." Yes. Absolutely. In fact, were she not an ACTRESS, I would completely believe that any parent who taught their kids that Bill O'Reilly was an ass, let their kid say the word "ass" and allowed them to play Soul Calibre was, in fact, secretly beating them.
I expect Bill O'Reilly's campaign to end Dakota Fanning's parent's reign of tyranny any day. I mean they let their kid act in GROWN UP MOVIES with VIOLENCE. How dare they?!
One wonders what he would say to the kids who hold up signs at anti-abortion protests. Or, you know, those parents who send their kids to Jesus Camp.
But I think special revulsion is reserved for the other guest on the show who claims that teaching your kids slanted views is "the ultimate inhumane treatment of a child." (Aside: how, exactly, is a parent meant to keep every single one of their views away from their children?)
I respectfully submit that kids who get the shit beaten out of them, who get verbally abused, who get starved and who are deprived of clothing, housing and education, would disagree. I also submit that her claim that ostracization is a great moral weapon speaks volumes as to the quality of her character.
I just...whatever your political alignment this CANNOT pass for journalism and to be frank, I find it kind of offensive.
