Still amazing. I'm not even kidding that if you just keep making vids like this, I'll just never have to watch the show. This is the Fringe I want all the time the characters and themes and feelings and OLIVIA BEING TOTALLY FUCKING BADASS, but in this desperate, clinging-by-her-fingernails way that you have to watch closely to see, because she's just that awesome. I love all your vids, we know this, but this one just makes me want to go: YES, THIS, ALL OF THIS. It blow me away starting with the opening. It's so *angry* and Olivia is so angry, but in such a restrained, desperate way; she doesn't ACT angry, she just IS angry, in the way she moves and talks and just IS, and this vid totally draws that out of the show and puts it on display. Restraint =/= inexpressive or boring, and Olivia's faaaaaaace here guh.

I'm struggling to articulate why I love this so much in whole, but it's like this situates Olivia within the entire narrative, and her relationship to everyone and how central to everyone she is, and how determined and *powerful* she is, even with people like Bell and Walter and Nina, in addition to all the other secondary people--men--here, trying to manipulate her. But it's not just about fighting enemies, she's just fighting for everything, piece by piece. Like, I love the juxtaposition of John and her mother and of Broyles and Nina at the end, and how alike those people are in their relation to her; she loses or doesn't really know the people she loves, and she doesn't really know who's on her side. <3

It's gorgeously edited of course, and "tomorrow I will be a god of men" and "created by intelligent design" needle-stabbing and throat-punching and the casting of the scientists and Nina as the earl of...Something and "never had a scientific mind like me." And all of the rest too. WHY CAN'T THE SHOW ALWAYS JUST BE ABOUT THIS?

<3 Thank you! But...noooo, you MUST watch the show with me! I'll just...keep prescreening episodes for you and only tell you to watch the ones where she's raging at something. ;) But yes, I'm so glad you see these things in both the vid and the character. Olivia is perhaps the angriest character I've ever loved - she's absolutely furious but it's so deeply controlled and buried watching it is both subtle and fascinating. I'm just so thrilled you think I managed to convey that.

she loses or doesn't really know the people she loves, and she doesn't really know who's on her side.

Yes! So much.

WHY CAN'T THE SHOW ALWAYS JUST BE ABOUT THIS?

THIS AND CRAZY WALTER! :D *hugs*

I've seen only a couple of your vids, but from what I've seen the thing all your vids share in common is that they're full of heart, full of understanding for the characters they are about and that is just amazing. This is just so purely Olivia that.. well, I don't know how to describe the Olivia-ness of it's, but it's there and it's wonderful. Great song choice too.

So. Awesome. !!! There are a lot of small moments that are hitting me again or for the first time as I move through, but I have so much *GLEE* over it as a portrait of Olivia in furious motion and purpose through the whole damn narrative. (I really just want to quote everything [livejournal.com profile] chaila43 says about the power of her anger actually.) It's more than a little beautiful to watch.

I've apparently reached a word quota, but it is AMAZING and I'm drawing lots of angry, nervous hearts around it. And watching it again because. So, so awesome.

You posted!

I really love this vid (and, really, there aren't enough Olivia-centric vids!). I remain very much in love with the beginning of this vid and it lines up so well to the scene in context and out of it. So many people want to control and manipulate her and each time Olivia breaks free, coming back up swinging.

statues surrounded by neolithic objects

The way Olivia is standing over the disappeared building just struck me so much especially with the next line about the glyphs and Olivia tracking down the pattern over a map.

But most of this line:

I will be a God of men / to create a universe

And the corresponding images of Olivia confirming her ability and the way the camera zooms out as she looks out of the Two Towers… it felt like there was something foreshadow-y about it all.

I want to say more because rewatching this makes me see and feel something new. It's just really, really fantastic. Thank you so much for sharing this vid!

I did post! :D And also I knooooow, why is the internet not a stream of endless Olivia-centric vids?! ;)

I love how clearly you see the message of the vid - Olivia fighting back at everything and everyone who wants to control her. I'm also very happy you liked the first line you quoted because I really liked it but I was worried it'd be one of those strange lyrical associations only I really got - along with the next line about the geoglyphs. <3

And I just LOVE that whole scene with the lights. Olivia's fear and power wrapped up in one. I think it was partly so powerful BECAUSE it - for once - cut through her underlying anger and control that she usually uses to mask any invulnerability, but, like her anger, and like her control, her fear, even in this mindwarpingly odd moment, is understated; near-silent. It's the epicest of epic foreshadowing and I really wish they'd get on with telling us exactly what Olivia can do with her brain.

Thanks again for such a thoughtful comment and for your help with it before I posted. I really appreciate it and am glad it holds up to rewatches!

I'm really so very glad my comments helped!

Olivia's fear and power wrapped up in one. I want to draw hearts around this quote so much! This is so very true of everything about Olivia, Cortexiphan and her abilities. She has so much mixed reactions to her abilities, she isn't like Nick Lane who has waited all his life to be activated, nor was she like all the other poor Cortexi-kids who have no control over their powers and end up hurting so many people and ultimately themselves.

Jones and his creepy look together with the line 'poor bastard' sent a shiver up my spine because that's the reaction to Olivia most of the time but Olivia throws all that back to their faces with something a little more extra.

(Your icon: AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Olympic sharpshooter. Never not awesome.)

Also, hi! :) Friending is always welcome. I don't always friend back right away because I'm a bit daft about keeping my flist size low, and it doesn't actually comprise the entirety of the LJs I read or people I love talking to. Because of that I try very hard not to flock stuff unless it has real life stuff that can identify me/is super hyper personal, which is a fairly rare occurrence. What I'm trying to say is, I hope that doesn't make you feel unwelcome here because I love meeting new people!

FRINGE AND STUFF. :)

No worries, I am just going around collecting Fringe friends to Fringefy my flist. So seeing as you're also a vidder that kinda goes hand in hand with mah interests. Had to snag you up. ;)

Speaking of which, I continue to watch your vid daily and it continues to blow me away!

This is AWESOME. I love how Olivia's character is so all over the place in it (and, as a proxy note, I am now wondering a) what Ourlivia will do when her hair starts to grow in blonde and b) if Sam will look at Fauxlivia and know immediately what's what).

I, uh, wow. I've watched this vid so many times and feel like I can't begin to express how much I love it. Olivia Dunham is so awesome.

0:21 stone statues, love how it's the disappearing building
0:27 makes it feel like a dream, omg!
0:32 they call me a charlatan, I love the expression on her face here, it is PERFECT
0:36-0:40 - all I need is to create a universe... trillion degrees, this is a beautiful, gorgeous, omg flooring sequence right here, it's made me squeak each time I've seen it
0:45-0:47, snowman, observer!! ahh, amazing!!
0:55-1:44, omg I'm so taken by the vocalizing going on in the background of the song, it's so ethereal, so haunting, but the beats of the song and the audio snippets are at the forefront which help highlight the danger and violence of the show
1:17-1:19 - YES, YES, YES. I love how Olivia is so fucking smart and god, this is wonderful right here
2:19 - I love the editing work right here, especially the paper set down at 2:20 also? aurora borealis? colors of business cards? \o/ \o/ \o/

omg *leaps onto vid and wraps herself up with it* it's so jam packed with awesome, I love it, I love it, I love it

Wow, thank you so much! And also for such a wonderfully detailed piece of feedback! You picked out so many of my favourite moments. I'm especially pleased you liked the line about her being a charlatan - it's such a perfect piece of Dunham Fuck You! And the part about the universe/trillion degrees cus I ended up really happy with how that looked and it's always exciting to hear that echoed back at me.

The vocalizing in the background of the song is definitely fascinating, right? It adds such an interesting layer to the whole song - a creepy, haunting feeling, that you're right, adds danger and violence in a very insidious way to what would otherwise be a straight-up angry song.

I'm so happy you picked up on the bits about her intelligence at 1:17 because I loved not only that she escaped but also that she then solved her own kidnapping but I was worried the clips wouldn't be too clear as there aren't many iconic shots of that.

In short - awesome feedback - thank you so much! :D

\o/ Thank you so much! That's wonderful to hear. Olivia is seriously amazing. The show itself is sometimes too standaloney or doesn't make quite as much of its narrative choices as it should, but at other times it really surprises me with complex and subtle exploration of things. THINGS LIKE HOW AWESOME IT IS WHEN OLIVIA FIGHTS STUFF! ;)

But yeah, Olivia is right up there in my lists of favourite characters right now and I'm really glad this vid captures something compelling about her.

OMG I DID NOT KNOW THIS IS SO BADASS. You took my breath away! Fantastic song choice.

I think that one of the reasons I love rap vids about ladies is the tone of in-your-face assertiveness, arrogance, and agency. It works so perfectly for Olivia, highlighting how her experience of victimization (via biotechnology) is also what made her a SUPERHERO. WIN!
