Yeah, I'm not sure what it is either - I think it's half wanting a genuine audience response and also fear of talking it up and then not being able to deliver? Whereas if there's no expectation there can't be disappointment?
It's interesting, I didn't really like Cally that much during the series either. I sort of wanted to, but sort of like Athena, I felt there was a tension between the way the show portrayed her and the way I saw her but unlike Athena I never really saw the likelihood of that being explored. But like you I think a lot more about her now. I think part of that is the epic genderfail stuff that ended up encompassing her as part of the quadrangle of fail so finding ways of redeeming her and making her awesome is...really rewarding? Or something? ;)
