Torchwood.
Oct. 20th, 2006 10:10 pmDylswn i gwylio Torchwood? Mae'n anodd. Ar yr un llaw, dwi eisio cefnogi unrhyw rhaglen teledu sy'n barod i ddangos person cymraeg fel rhywbeth mwy na cymeriad comedi. Ar y llaw arall, dwi ddim yn sicr fy mod i'n hoffi Doctor Who lot erbyn hyn. Nid i ddweud bod dim byd da ynghylch y rhaglen, on mae gen i broblemau difrifol gyda'r degfed doctor. Dal, meddwl am pethau fel Cassandra yn marw ym mreichiau ei hun, a Sarah Jane yn dweud wrtho'r doctor yn union sut mae'n teimlo i gael dy adael ar ol fel rhyw ci robotig dwl. Buasai'n haws delio a'r ffaith nad ydwyf yn teimlo bod y doctor newydd yn berson da iawn os nad oeddwn yn gallu darganfod pethau gwerthfawr yn gweddill y rhaglen. A dyna hi. Mae fy anhoffter o'r degfed doctor yn effeithio fy awydd i wylio nid yn unig cyfres newydd Doctor Who on hefyd Torchwood.
Ar yr un llaw, bydd yn dda clywed acenion cymreig ar y teledu a gweld pobl saesneg yn ceisio ynganu Ianto, a gweld rhaglen wedi ei sefydli yn y dinas lle tyfais i fyny. Ar y llaw arall, fyddaf yn poeri hoelion pan fod pob person yng nghaerdydd yn siarad fel ei bod yn dod o'r dyffrynoedd. SOME OF US SOUND JUST LIKE ENGLISH PEOPLE, DAMN YOU ALL!
And thus concludes my rant. Which can be summarised thusly:
Torchwood I would be much more excited about watching you if a) I weren't so, *so* disappointed by the Tenth Doctor and my dislike of him (which I'm realising is more bitter dislike because I *do* enjoy the events that unfold around him) that my viewing of Doctor Who related material is experiencing a bit of a hit, and b) if I weren't dreading their giving everyone in cardiff a thick welsh accent, and then feeling guilty about that, because there's little enough welsh-accent visibility on TV as it is (oh, unless the character's there for comedy...) and I really shouldn't be splitting hairs about my accent agenda just because everyone always says to *me*, "But you don't sound welsh..."
Thus, I am torn.

Date: 2006-10-22 12:35 pm (UTC)Tenth Doctor is loathsomeness. I think perhaps you should hold your horses about judging Torchwood until you have actual proof positive that they will give everyone thick Welsh accents. And then perhaps you should rise above your personal suffering and pain! ;) Besides, how do you know that lots of the English-accented people you see in the rest of the series aren't actually from Cardiff but just don't mention it?
I once dated a boy from Cardiff and he sounded a million times posher than me. Although he did sometimes call bus drivers "beaut".

Yeah, I did, it was great fun! I'm just wondering what amount of accent smatterings they'll have this time... And being cranky!

That...is entirely new to me and has special dispensation to be left out of Torchwood entirely...
