I AM STILL REALLY EXCITED THAT STARTED WATCHING DAMAGES.
So basically, now that I am not restrained by 140 character limits, Patty is totally the devil except for how she is also maybe righteous and I FUCKING LOVE HER FOR IT. Like, we will talk more, but I have always found my immediate and intense love for Patty to be some sort of scary mirror into my id or something, because whenever I talk to other people who've just started the show, they're like...she's kind of a horrible person. And I'm like, oh yeah, right, I guess she is, BUT HOW AMAZING IS SHE XD. My very favorite thing about the show is that she IS the devil in so many ways, to characters that we aren't told to hate, and yet I am allowed to love her and maybe think she is sort of right within the parameters of the text. Yet the text did not want to make me feel SORRY for her to make me identify with her. It was not at all either the story of this is how she's actually heroically saving the system, nor the story of, this is why she is the way she is, let us explain her to you in a way that you can understand then feel "sympathy" for. There is basically no apology or black-and-white justification from Patty herself for the way she is OR from the show for the way she is? She's not really a protagonist or antagonist, in any way that I can strictly pin down, though it's her damn show; she's just not characterized simplistically, ever, in any way. OMG PATTY HEWES LET'S TALK ABOUT HER FOREVER AND EVER.
I, um, really like her a lot. <3
WHAT YOU WATCHED DAMAGES. :DDDDDDDDD
(The first season is by far the best, but Patty is always freaking amazing. I even have hope that you won't hate the rest of it or anything, because all of this stuff is always there in the amaaazing character stuff for Patty and Ellen, whatever the surrounding plot trappings are).
