Arkham Horror vs the Birds of Prey?!

So today I was playing the Arkham Horror board game (as in Arkham the fictional city Lovecraft invented for the Cthulu mythos stories), with K & E, when we managed to, completely through a series of random choices, end up playing characters that were OBVIOUSLY the Birds of Prey (as in, the all-female superhero team from Gotham, home of the fictional Arkham Asylum).

Seriously, I was playing a red-headed, bespectacled librarian who got an ally named Oliver GRAYSON, K was playing a character who was riding around on a motorcycle using a demonic flute to attack monsters (CLEARLY a metaphor for a Canary Cry!), and E was playing a brunette heiress with angst about a dead family member who (a) kept having encounters with the mob (well, the Sheldon Gang), and (b) kept finding all the guns and weapons and wandering around visiting bloody vengeance on people.

Had I post-it notes I would have insisted we all rename our character cards "Babs," "Dinah," and "Helena".

Also we sealed enough gates to prevent the world from being eaten by Yog-Sothoth; you're all welcome.

ALSO on the bus over to E's house, the dude in front of me on the bus was totally reading Batwoman #1! It was a very comics day.

OMGS I want to do something for Galentine's Day but I just got a new job and even though it's part-time it's leaving me kinda frazzled so I'm not sure I'd have the energy to do so. BLARGH.

I really do need to catch up on the rest of Gotham Central; I really liked what I read of it. But yes, it is the same Maggie in both Gotham Central and Batwoman. Kate's got a thing for the GCPD it seems... Though post-Flashpoint it looks like Maggie is a Detective rather than a Captain. She could have been demoted I guess, but it seems more likely she simply hasn't risen to that rank yet given that the relaunch generally made everyone younger. In some ways it's a shame to have her in less of an authority position. But in another way it kind of leaves her free to be the lead detective on the missing children case and clash with Batwoman in a more immediate way which is kind of fun.

I miss Bette though! I want her to wake up soon! Although it's unexpected and kind of sweet that Jacob is sitting with her so much. I would have been pissed about it but I read an interview with the writers that seemed to allude to big plans for Bette in the future and how they thought she wasn't necessarily treated with a lot of respect as a character in the past, so I'm hoping they're like, taking her to a low point to build her back up rather than just having bad shit happen to her to show the effect on others. But I think we might have to wait until the next arc to see it. Grr! Moar Bette!

Galentine's Day totally snuck up on me too! I was considering maybe not doing it, but I love it so, and just added in that they might not be finished by tomorrow(hah they really won't be). Yay for new job though!

Oh great, I actually picked up on it then :D My brain is not the most attentive of things. Really glad to have her back in that case. And I agree on it being better to have her out in the field, investigating cases, and getting her panties in a bunch over Batwoman [insert high school humor here]

I do actually think Bette was handled respectfully. I mean, the whole scene with her going down was gut-wrenching, but considering how lightly she seemed to be taking the superhero gig, this will likely take her in a very interesting direction. So I doubt this was a direction they took to show her effect on the people around her. And now she and Kate can compare scars! And be even more bad ass.
