Well, it's been a day since I've seen it and I still don't really have anything to say. I mean, it was nice and all. I'm not a big Kat fan, but I really felt for her in the episode and was touched by her death. Though I felt the sudden insertion of an ex-romantic entanglement was slightly cliche and unnecessary. Story would have worked just as well if he was simply threatening to blackmail her. Plus, I got really confuzzled when - right after that scene where she realizes her hair's falling out - she has a "flashback" to frakking him. When was that? When she was frakked up with radiation poisoning? Yeah...

Anyway. I also found Starbuck's offering her the sleeping pills a little weird. I mean, Katee Sackhoff's acting was top notch, but it still felt a little weird. Like, I'm not sure how I'd take that offer if I was in Kat's place. Then again, maybe it's a horrible thing to offer but someone has to? Point is, great acting, but haven't reached a conclusion yet.

Adama waiting with her while she died was nice. I don't for a second think he did feel like Kat was a surrogate daughter to him, but what he did for her while she was dying - that was him being a great commander and proving that the family approach works well with the dying. He did a good job of making her feel peaceful and loved at the end, and I completely respect that. Though his mention of a daughter and "three being a nice round number" did make me think of Starbuck again and how she's totally still his kid.

Ooh, also - the one thing that I do have a strong opinion on - Carolanne! HAHA! Caroline + Anne = Carolanne = Adama was only married once so I don't have to explain that bizarre never-mentioned-again second marriage bollocks again! It's nice to see at least one of the million problems I have with the Adama timeline retconned to my satisfaction.

Err, also, there should have been more Laura Roslin. Also I am enjoying the Cylon subplot though I wish there would be more Caprica Six.

Basically this was a good episode. I liked it. It had an interesting problem and setup that was well-handled. Apart from the slightly clunky ex-lover issue I really enjoyed it. Though when watching her last scene with Kara I thought, "Is it just me, or is Kat about to declare her love for Starbuck?" which inevitably led to, during the scene with Adama, "Is it just me or is Adama about to declare his love for Kat?" All of which was slightly twisted and probably symptomatic of my being ever so slightly bored. But that's my fault, not the episode's. It was a great episode. And I'm really happy to see them dealing with the fallout of being, well, on the run in space in refugee ships. But for some reason, probably my lack of connection to Kat, I had time to let my mind wander and make up hilarious alternate dialogue and obsess over the Adama timeline issues.

So, yeah. An okay episode. But not one I wish they'd done differently. They need to put in episodes like this every now and again because change is good. And next time, maybe it'll be a third-tier character I'm desperately interested in.

Also, I am not going to talk about Tigh getting re-instated. I'm just not. I'm waiting and I'm seeing and I'm saying no more about it.

In the podcast Ron explained that Kat had sex with Enzo because she knew she was going to die and that human beings have this need for intimacy and making a connection.

The sleeping pill scene felt very odd to me. I got that it was an act of kindness, but I just didn't feel that it was something that Kat would do and Kara should have known that.

This wasn't a bad episode by any mean, hell, we even got a Zak mention and some screwy continuity cleaned up, but there just wasn't much to analyze with such a straightforward story.

...yes, because dying of radiation poisoning to the point where her hair is falling out and where she's surely got no appetite for anything and feels like total, exhausted shit, is bound to make her horny. The whole time I kept expecting the classic "hand in her hair" shot and for half of it to fall out - cut to Enzo's grossed out face.

Yup, pretty much exactly.
