beccatoria: (vid all the things!)

I KNOWWWWW, other than OUAT, I vidded such obscure stuff this year... But I'm so thrilled that the Mass Effect vid looks good anyway - as you can see, that was probably the vid that meant most to me this year, and I'm super jealous you got to see it on the big screen!

I hope we've just levelled off? That would be nice. I really liked your point about how you could vid for an audience of one with gifts, I need to think more about that and remember my experience of my insane vidding project and work out a low-key lower-output way of repeating that next year maybe... Because it's nice I seem zen but I think that's overstating it slightly - I'm not totally zen because it does definitely make me sad; feedback is love. I just...thought about it and decided that if I have to choose between the suck of not getting feedback and the suck of vidding stuff I don't love and the suck of not vidding, I'd rather the first? I think? Though I guess we'll see if I stop vidding. :p I definitely don't think I can muster the energy to vid stuff I'm not enthusiastic about though. But then I imagine not many can or would. Fandom's meant for people who aren't ashamed of caring after all...

I'm completely unsure what to tell you about Regina. It's way better than some of the S1 stuff and I legitimately love a lot of it. But I also think that the fact it's not a genre that generally speaks to you will have an impact on your willingness to set aside your cynicsim and be optimistic about the direction. And at this point I'd still say that I'm loving it in part due to optimism about the meaning of what they're doing, not totally undeniable authorial intention. Soooo, try it if you have the time, maybe? I'm not sure. Obviously I WANT you to watch it, and it IS doing some seriously interesting things. But I don't know if they're interesting enough for it to transcend the genre issue.

It's interesting that unlike my usual love affairs with morally problematic, powerful women, I actually don't root for Regina. I adore her and I root for her continued interesting and at times sympathetic characterisation, but I'm enjoying her as the villain, even at times when she's temporarily allied with the heroes. I'm not against a long-term redemption arc, and I hope that if it happens, it happens on terms that don't lobotomise or villify her personality, but, you know, this isn't a show I watch and secretly root for the villain, like I suspect I would with Cersei? So again, I don't know how that would affect your character preferences either, though I suppose this is also unusual for me. SO. I am not useful here... ;)

If there's any way I can help you put together your vid ideas, you know you should just let me know! :D
