An Embarassing Dilemma...

Okay, so, the movie 2012 finally came out here a week or so ago and...despite thinking it would not be very good, and despite having a pet hate for the myth that the Mayans thought the world was going to end in 2012 (it's just when their calendar rolls over, they didn't ascribe world-ending importance to it), I was gonna go and see it.

Why, I hear you ask?

Except, yesterday Addy went and watched it and told me it was absolutely, ridiculously, mindbreakingly awful and really, no prettiness is worth it, honestly, save yourself, Becka, FLEE! And since my plan was to see it this afternoon, I'm in a bit of a dilemma.

I dunno; at least New Moon has genuine it's so bad you can laugh at it factor, I'm worried this will be just plain bad. And this poll is being annoyingly close-cut. >:( I ended up not going yesterday after all but...the spectre of the choice still looms...

Hee! Yes, I was thinking I could watch Serenity again to cleanse my soul...

Unfortunately I doubt he will have the accent, although that's not so much the dealbreaker for me. I just like watching him on film - he has a quality of movement that's near impossible to capture in a still image. <3

Yeah, that's also an option worth considering - but then I do wonder if it's worth the entry fee when I can rent it for cheap in a few months and laugh out loud at home instead of stifling my hilarious response in a cinema... *considers*

I have complete faith in the ability of your mind to withstand the ridiculousness and not break, to triumph over the BAD MOVIE and laugh in its face! Also, like frolicndetour, I was roped into seeing "New Moon" with promises of hilarity, and lo, it was hilarious (and the scenery was very pretty!) and my brain is still intact.

Yes, it is awful. Stunningly, ridiculously awful.

However

If you go into it accepting the awful, it can actually be pretty fun. I was giggling my head off at bits (as was half the theater). There are moments that were so filled with WTF that I was filled with glee.

And it has Mr. Ejiofor. So my vote (FWIW) is go.

I do understand the OMGHILARIOUS factor and honestly that would be the main reason I'd go at this point, but equally I fear that I'll just find it painful and quite ludicrous enough to tip the scales to humour... ARGH! DILEMMA!

I'm tardy to the party, but it's Chiwetel Ejiofor! I'm going to watch it on DVD when it comes out. I might have to mute everything but him, but it's CHIWETEL EJIOFOR!
