Ted Kennedy
Jan. 20th, 2010 12:08 pmThere was an election yesterday, and I would have been sad about the result whatever state it was held in. Maybe a little sadder than most that it was Massachusetts because while it's not the state I vote in, I do have ties there. But hey, democracy's a bitch like that. Sometimes people vote for the Other Guy - you know, the one who's Wrong? I mean, I really, really believe he's Wrong for a whole bunch of - to my mind - logical and moral reasons. I don't subscribe to the idea that both sides of an argument are as valid as the other, or that the truth must lie somewhere in the middle of two opinions. It's not some happy, lets-all-hold-hands, comforting idea when I say that sometimes people vote for a side I'm not on. But it is their right, and not to support that right would be to cripple the already limping democratic processes of the world even further.
So fine, that-part-of-the-general-public, I support your right to elect a dude I think is a piece of work.
But just know, that when you do it to Ted Kennedy, and when one of this guy's war cries is how he's going to kill the meager healthcare bill that has managed to survive to this point, you're going to break my damn heart as you do it.
So I'm going to take a minute to remember Ted Kennedy. Because I'm sorry and he didn't deserve it.

Date: 2010-01-20 12:25 pm (UTC)I've been afraid to look for results because I was so afraid the electorate might just have killed the Obama presidency, created a lame duck, and opened the door to a crushing Republican victory in 3 year time which will result in another 8 yeras of uncontrolled greed and destruction.
I saw ex-Democrat voters talking about how they were going to vote Republican because blah de blah Obama hadn't fixed everything in a year. And I got so angry. DO THEY NOT REMEMBER WHY EVERYTHING IS BROKEN IN THE FIRST FRAKKIN' PLACE?!

Date: 2010-01-20 12:55 pm (UTC)Which I think is the terribly dark and sinister way that the media has become such a force. The force. In influencing peoples minds on how they think and feel about topics.
I really think there should be legislation to break up the media conglomerates. It breaks my heart that people in the UK government keep talkin gabout letting Sky (Murdoch) buy two out of our 5 main terrestrial channels because 'Its good for competition'. How the hell is that good for competition?
These same voices also want to muzzle and destroy the BBC. Which again, handing us all into Murdochs pocket.
The Democrats really are useless though aren't they. The lesson of the Bush years... I remember Hunter Thompson talking about it, and at least he could respect the Republicans because okay they were evil, but they were efficient, and they got things done. Whereas the Democrats were just a bit incompetant.

Thanks for the reminder, my perspective's a little skewed sometimes.

Not that it doesn't hurt my soul now and every other time it comes down to this, dammit. *eyes upcoming political shenanigans jadedly*

Oh my head.
