Birthdays, Thank yous and Stuff!

...first off, I have reached new heights of idiocy. I typed this entry up yesterday got distracted by like, dinner or something, and totally forgot I never pressed POST. So it's been sitting in its own little tab for almost 24 hours.

IF I'd posted it when I was supposed to, I wouldn't be late wishing asta77 the happiest of happy birthdays. You are awesome, and I'm sorry I haven't watched White Collar yet! :D

Okay, on to the post I originally typed:

Thanks dudes, for all your AWESOME music suggestions. I haven't even waded my way through half of them yet, but you guys really pulled out all the stops for me. Some of them I'd heard of, or even already liked but had stupidly forgotten about, but soooo many of them are new to me. Please forgive not going through each individual comment because they would all basically consist of: "OMG, you are AWESOME, and thank you!" So...consider this a personal message to each of you.

Next up, a parallel conversation about a...vaguely related social-interest topic started up in that post's comments. A couple of people mentioned to me they were worried the post was getting derailed or that I was not happy with the ongoing conversation, etc. I'm sorry if I heightened that perception through my non-involvement - I can assure you that was not the case. I was reading with interest but simply didn't feel well-enough educated in the issue (or, to be perfectly honest, interested enough in it to become so), to participate. However, everyone was polite and nice and I never mind people discussing random crap in my LJ. I hope it was useful in some way to the participants and if so, I'm glad to provide the space for it. If not, oh well, that's a few hours of your life you'll never get back! ;)

Seriously, though, I'm a big girl, if you're doing something in my LJ I don't like, I will big girl up and tell you. :)

I'd love to hear which artists you wind up liking. I actually own about 95% of what was recced (even the stuff I didn't mention). Man, I love music.

It's weird, I love music and can play several instruments to varying degrees, but when it comes to listening to music I often fail terribly at diversity even though what I enjoy is actually pretty diverse HMM.

But yeah, I'll try to remember what I enjoyed specifically.

Currently I'm really quite taken by Suzanne Vega and Natalie Merchant and the 10,000 Maniacs who I was mostly only peripherally aware of.

I am totally bookmarking that post for new-to-me music or, yes, all those people I have heard one album from or always mean to check out and somehow just never do.
