THE MUPPET SHOW

SO. I just got back and really there are like, comments and book clubs and comic-reading marathons and card-deck-building shit I oughta be doing cus I'm vaguely behind on everything, but um, it's my first Real Day of Vacation, so instead, I crashed out and started watching The Muppets on YouTube (as you do).
When I was a kid this show was one of the best things in the world. And honestly, I find it hard to say that as an adult, I have changed my opinion. It's silly, it's surreal and it teaches us the best ways to deal with temper tantrums.
And YouTube has all the best scenes clipped for rewatching and instant gratification! It truly is the nexus of my easily-entertained childhood and easily-distracted adulthood.
Plus, probably, I think the fact that these are my favourite scenes tells you everything you need to know about me...
The Muppet Glee Club sing Temptation
(Really, it's worth sticking around until they actually get to the song...)
It's a Beautiful Day!
Still the best way to deal with temper tantrums..
Solid-state Gorilla Detector!
It happens to me all the time.

Okay, so this is new stuff, but WATCH IT!

Date: 2010-08-19 08:49 am (UTC)A musician, with whom I socialise, recently accused me and another person of "being like those two old men on the Muppets". To which I, of course, replied with GREAT GLEE, "Statler and Waldorf! My childhood heroes!" (In case you were wondering, I see myself more as a Statler sort. ;-P )

Date: 2010-08-19 09:41 am (UTC)And yesssss, Waldorf and Statler! I will happily play Waldorf to your Statler! Statler always seemed a little more...out of it, whereas Statler always seemed more acerbic, to me, at least? (Oh how wonderful to discuss the subtle character differences with someone! :p)
Aaaaah, the Muppets makes any day better.

Statler is definitely either more laid back or more senile, although I think the borderline senility is actually a cunning plan to excuse his behaviour. Waldorf is definitely in the position of ringleader imo (and, again, either Statler is easily led or it's all part of his cunning plan to evade responsibility, heh).
I continue to maintain that being a guest on the Muppet Show was the ultimate accolade for any 70s singing star.

I knew there was a reason I liked him! *affects senility and evades responsibility...* ;)

On this we totally agree!

Ps. I bought the box set of the first season. Saving them for sick days!

Date: 2010-08-20 10:14 am (UTC)The closest I come is that my parents used to measure units of time for me in Muppet Shows. "Are we nearly there yet?" "No, another half a Muppet Show to go..."
And YES! I did find the YouTube stuff, but only verrrry recently, which is part of what spawned this Muppet!Spam. :D
I have the box set of the first season tooooo, it totally lived up to my memories of it. I haven't got the second season one yet though. :(
