OH MY GOD PEARL IS SO IN LOVE WITH ROSE.

This is just beautiful. I love how it draws out the bigger, epic stuff from the little bits and implications of the episodes, and makes them the focus, mashing it all up with the adorableness and warmth. It's so shot through with wistfulness, but also looooove. You've done an amazing job invoking Rose feels in the visual and thematic echoes we do get of her, the way she is at the (often unspoken) center of so much of these relationships, in ways we don't fully comprehend but know is there.

and the Connie bits are SO LOVELY, so so lovely, the friendship and the tentative joyful dancing and their confidence as Stevonnie, I love her and them wow <333333

Thanks for such lovely words. I really wanted to capture that wistful lightness that the show conveys so well. It's so sad in many ways, but the sadness is at the edges and never overwhelms its beauty. As you say, it's a show built around an absence, but is also fundamentally about love rather than loss?

And Stevonnie is just about the most gorgeous thing in a show just full of them. STEVONNIE. <333333

Aww, yay and thank you! I really do recommend watching it. It starts off adorable and slightly subversive but stick with it and eventually it gets, well *points at vid*? Plus the episodes are only eleven minutes long so it's really easy to catch up.

I'm back!

I could go on forever about even just the opening with Pearl and Steven and how she briefly wants him to fall and he does and then he still hugs her and Steven is as close to Rose Quartz as there is. And then with all the Rose Quartz imagery like the flag and symbol. OMG

Those waves at :43 are spine chilling as the editing picks up, like whoa.

I love you were able to pick out the most Steveny Steven bits that are the most Rose Quartz, like trying to save and love all living things, even ones that hurt others.

Love the introduction of Peridot with the final change in the music.

Ohhhhhh Pearl and Lapius wanting to go home. And the costs and their ultimate decisions. Ouch.

Steve and Connie! And Garnet's deep approval leading into Ruby and Sapphire. Gorgeous editing.

I love what you did with "knowledge tree" and Amethyst with Pearl.

Again, love what you did with Steven using his blood to bypass the shielding.

Oh wow, the editing process n Garnet's fight choreography is dazzling.

The ending sections where everything comes together is perfection and love.

AWWWWW dude, I don't even know what to say. Thank you so much for such a detailed list. That's just awesome, especially since so many of the moments you picked out are moments that mean a lot to me.

That ambiguous moment when Steven falls and Pearl goes to look for him, to save him, and then just...pulls back and the next time you see her she's huddled, horrified, hand over her mouth. Man, that moment. I mean I was already in love with the show at that point, but that just. I don't want to say elevated it to a whole other level because stuff like Stevonnie and the episode where the Gems meet Connie's parents and stuff had already proved it was in another league, but it was... I don't know but it was something. How dark and sad and strange and ambiguous it managed to be without actually tipping over into something that was tonally inconsistent or breaking the atmosphere that makes it safe for kids? Yeah, just wow. That was the point where I went from "I'd like to vid this," to "VIDS MUST HAPPEN IMMEDIATELY."

Also this is ALL your fault. I'd heard about this show before but kind of dismissed it under the assumption it was something like Adventure Time, which I'm not a huge fan of, but then you kept talking about it in such lovely terms I thought I'd check out at least the first episode and, well. You know what happened next. ;) So thank you for going on about it. I'd never have watched it otherwise. ♥

Oh my goodness, this is just wonderful! I love everything you've done with all the relationships and how tangible Rose's presence is throughout, and how you've shown Steven growing and learning and becoming more (I think, anyway), like a bridge between different worlds and ways of being.

Thank you thank you thank you! I just love so much about this show and two of the things I really wanted to convey was how much of a presence Rose is, or rather, how much of the show revolves around her absence (but in...this wistful, sorrowful, but not dark way?) and also, well, Steven himself? Like Rose's words about how he's going to experience being alive and how he just accepts everything on its own terms. Which, yeah, I hadn't thought of it as him being a bridge between things but it's so daft I never thought of it that way because, well, look at the summary I gave the vid. And it's exactly right. It's all about different ways of being.

And Steven just embraces all of them. One of my favourite moments in the show (okay one of many but that's just cus it's so great!) is when Stevonnie realises they're* a fusion and is like, "I HAVE TO SHOW EVERYBODY." Which I've capslocked because of the awe and gravity in their voice, not as indicative of volume? I was just so in love with how amazing Stevonnie thought this was. There was absolutely no concept that anyone would think this was anything less than fucking incredible. They were so proud and it was just brilliant.

But whatever, I'm on a massive tangent! The point being - YES, Steven as a bridge between different ways of being because he embraces all ways of being is perfection.

Yes, yes to all of this! And actually I hadn't quite got there with the idea of him being a bridge either until I watched this vid, so, revelatory!

And YES, I actually really love the way the show is about grief and missing people and how it's sad but it's not, like, "the world is ending" sad, it just is and life goes on and is different but still good.

And YES about Stevonnie, that was a beautiful moment! And actually Garnet's reaction is even more awesome in hindsight! (Oh god so many feelings about Garnet.)

I've watched is over and over again because it is so lovely and heartbreaking, even though it was super spoilery and I haven't seen those episodes yet, and now I can't wait to. This vid is so wonderful, and the song is so eerily perfect, and this is everything I love about the show in one place.

I saw this for the first time at the Trivia event during Vividcon last weekend and I have no idea what the question being asked was because I was too busy being entranced by this vid. *_*

Reccing it to everyone I know who's watched this enchantingly emotional show. It captures the bittersweet aspects of it so well.
