So, I saw the BSG finale, and I promise, thoughts are forthcoming. However, I'm not in a thinky mood right now, and I just discovered THIS on Wookipedia (Star Wars Wiki):

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Neimoidian_headgear

Seriously. This is an entry all about the HATS that those trade federation blue fish dudes from Episode One wore.

Also, the attempts of Lucasfilm to integrate EVERYTHING into canon (which I respect; I really really do, when it doesn't lead to travesties like this) means that the following Star Wars: Galaxies plotline is canon: "It also allows them to interact with the ghost of Obi-Wan Kenobi whom is lost on Mustafar and needs the aid of the players to help him "find his way back"."

They have, unfortunately changed the wording now so it's slightly less ridiculous. But seriously... "Strike me down, Darth, and I will become more disoriented than you can possibly imagine!"

Also: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Cody_Sunn-Childe

Crack. Absolute crack I tell you. And you know what, all that stuff in the Marvel 1970s comics? Canon.

Also, I am playing Necromunda again (miniatures war game where you err, play a futuristic 1980s style gang fighting for control of territory in the "underhive"). I love my new gang. My leader is Nancy Pelosi and she is fearsome and has a flamethrower. Also Isis Roslin managed to gain IMPRESSIVE SCARZZZZZ and now has a badass rep. Finally, Mara "If You Fuck With Me I'll Kill You" Carandini Lee (yes after Christopher Carandini Lee) managed to survive without getting nailed by absolutely ever other ganger on the table for the presumption of her name. So all in all it was a good. Perhaps I shall play again later in the week.

How do they explain Splinter of the Minds Eye?

From: [identity profile] beccatoria.livejournal.com
It's canon. All of it. Even though it was written entirely on a misty planet and without Han Solo because it was originally commissioned as a low-budget sequel should Star Wars not sell well... Yes, including the dodgy incestuous suggestions because back then, she wasn't his sister...

Seriously. "Stuff That's True In Star Wars," - better than crack...

There's a whole series of Lando books even more tripped out than Splinter. He's fighting and evil, conniving, terrifying, overlordish...snail.

um. Wow. I was joking... I mean... I didn't think they would even try... but... wow....

...Yeah.

After a while you move from shock to bargaining (please, just don't make THAT canon!) to hilarity to acceptance and then finally to grudging respect. And then you're not sure what to do when you realise that a totally awesome, three-dimensional character had her roots in a terrible 1970s Marvel comic and...and...now you're forever stuck with that in her backstory.

I call it the 6 stages of grieving for acclimitising to the Star Wars Extended Universe.

Ok.. well.. um... but that quote from Obi-Wan.. that was just a joke, right? He isn't really... disoriented...

...oh dear gods.... I'm so scared to get your reply to this question...

No, no, that was just me expressing my...utter despair at such a storyline. He doesn't really say that. And apparently there's a slightly less insane way of wording the storyline which also has something to do with correcting some imbalance in the Force.

But seriously, I'm not sure how any attempt at serious wording can get over the fact that he got lost as an insanely powerful Force ghost on Mustafar. What was he doing? Going for a quick tour of his life's "greatest hits" before wandering over to save dear old Luke from certain death?! And then random people give him a lift back to Hoth? To quote Star Trek for a change, "What does a Force ghost need with a starship?"

ARGH.

Wow. I think I'm glad I ended with the Star Wars world when I did. And perhaps I shall not go and look at that Wiki at all. I will live in my delusions. Greedo shot first. Greedo shot first....

Um, and unfortunately seems to have exploded again! I'm not sure what this metaquotes thing is - but yeah, go ahead and quote me. Though I can't remember if it was me or my boyfriend that first shrieked that phrase among the many phrases we shrieked when we first found out about that plotline...

Also, to be fair to the Star Wars EU I think, on the whole (with the exception of some of the computer games) it's getting better. The whole latest series is really quite incredible in some regards. One character (Jacen Solo) in particular has had some amazing charracter development.

It's a mixed bag, but...I was kind of serious about my Stages of Acceptance. And now I kind of love how detailed the world is. It's full of individual things that are just nuts but somehow the overall effect is greater than the sum of its parts. Even if it's no longer quite the universe of the original trilogy (and thankfully different to the universe of the prequels...)

Clearly I am master of the HTML today! FEAR ME!

I'll just post the link without trying to be fancy then: http://community.livejournal.com/metaquotes/5963591.html

I used to be very impressed with the way Lucas seemed to ensure that anyone who wrote about the Clone Wars (prior to the new movies) was not allowed to say anything too specific about the event itself, allowing him to save all that for the movies.

Hm. Is there an X-Men wiki? I probably shouldn't look at that either. uncanny.net has revealed some headshaking things for me in regard to this, my other love and obsession that I have long since given up on.

You know, one thing about all that crack:

Crack happens in Real Life, too. Life really sometimes *is* blindingly ridiculous. Maybe the deliberate crack of the Star Wars universe just corresponds to all the times that our own reality goes a bit haywire?

(At least that would be a nice way of rationalising it, wouldn't it?)

Yes, okay, I concede, Jaxxon should be up there...

If I ever have an urge to take hallucinogenic drugs, I think I'll just start reading the Marvel Star Wars comics instead.

But I'm not entirely certain it beats Ben Kenobi's ghost lost on Mustafar because apparently it's so much easier to find than Hoth. I think my favourite part of that story is that the Player Characters in Star Wars: Galaxies aren't canon so...who rescues him?

my main problem with star wars video games is that every other one of them has some mission where the main character retrieves the death star plans

Kyle Katarn in Dark Forces
The main character in X-Wing for the PC
Rianna Saren in Lethal Alliance

im sure there must be more

was it like a relay race or something, galactic pass the parcel maybe

Bah! How can the efforts of the Bothans be so easily discredited by mere video games. Pshaw!

They're actually releasing an entire death star book to retcon the whole thing into making sense.

"Many bothans died to bring you this paperback!"
