Vid Beta Request

Okay guys, here's the thing, I made this Caprica Six vid that ATE MY BRAIN. And then the marvelous projectjulie took a look for me and did some betaing. And now I think - I think I'm mostly happy with it. But it's very odd, quite complicated in places and narratively nonlinear. Sort of.

I'm also in love with it. It's a Manifesto Vid. It's like...here is who I think she is now. I'm not sure I've felt so strongly about here is what I have to say in a vid since I made "Jesus Walks," actually. At least not for a character. I won't vid unless I think I have something to say, but my Lee/Laura video was more from a desire to share what I loved about that relationship and a reaction against B/L - what I wanted to say is, "isn't this alternative better?" And "Hummingbird Song" was a manifesto about the entirety of "Razor" not anyone in particular. I guess what I'm saying is, this is only the second time I've made an Angry Character Vid (though the vid itself is more lonely than angry.) I made it in the same feverish way I made "Jesus Walks" and this means I cannot think critically about it at this point.

And Julie has gotten to the point where she's seen it so many times she also thinks I need a fresh pair of eyes.

So:

Is anyone willing to cast an eye over this (hopefully) nearly finished vid?

It has spoilers through 4.08 and one of the season 3 deleted scenes. Obviously given the type of character she is, so much of her character development is delineated by her romantic relationships, but as well as Baltar, HeadBaltar and Tigh, the vid also touches on Boomer/(&Athena), D'Anna and to an extent, Roslin.

It's set to "Set the Fire to the Third Bar," by Snow Patrol feat. Martha Wainwright.

It's tentatively titled, "Ghosts With Just Voices." But I worry that's a bit emo. (Then again, I'm vidding to Snow Patrol, so perhaps I ought to give up the pretense... :p)

It's a love-letter to no one, because Caprica Six is stuck in a long distance relationship with someone who doesn't actually exist.

So, yeah, please comment if you're up for betaing this a little for me. As I said, I've already redrafted it a few times. I'm not looking to upend the structure. But I do want someone who can bring a fresh eye and tell me, "This works," or "You are smoking crack." (Or perhaps both: both I could also live with.)

(Speaking of crack, I must now go off to start work on redrafting the OTHER vidding project!)

I'd be happy to give it a try, though I can't promise a super-fast turnaround (travelling to the Netherlands tomorrow and -- well, see other post :-) and you might be better off with someone else.

And I've never spent much time thinking about the Cylons (since before this season, I never spent much time caring about the Cylons) -- whether that would be a disadvantage or an advantage is up to you!

Thank you for the offer! And I think it would be an advantage: it has to work on its own merits (though I suppose that feeds into a very odd notion of how independent a fanwork can ever be from contextually understanding the source).

In all honesty I was probably looking for some feedback in the next day or two at least, but I'm going to include you in a filtered post in about an hour or so once it's uploaded (it's 56megs and my internet connection has ground to a halt), so you can give me any opinions you have on the offchance you get to watch it before I decide to just say "screw it, it's done now!"

But no pressure! I'm not expecting a quick turnaround time and have an awesome time this weekend in the Netherlands! :D

edited to add: I really have no idea what's going on with my internet connection, but it's died a serious death and is refusing to upload at anything like a sane speed - it's going to take hours. Grr! Basically, the vid post will show up tomorrow morning at this rate. :)

I am far from a vidding expert, but if you are looking for general impressions such as "This part is cool" or "This part makes absolutely no sense" then I could take a look at it. And I love Snow Patrol! ;)

Actually that sounds like a great sort of advice to get. I mean, that's probably the perspective most viewers will come to the vid with, and honestly, you don't need to be an experienced vidder to decide when something works for you and when something doesn't.

I'm currently experiencing frustrating upload difficulties, but in the next hour or so I ought to have a filtered post up with the link to the draft.

Also, at least we know you'll enjoy one aspect of the vid! ;) And actually, yes, I like Snow Patrol too, I just...it's such a fandom song choice, if that makes sense? It's been done once before in BSG fandom already that I know of (though that was an L/K vid).

ETA: As noted above my net connection is being screwily weird and it'll be HOURS before this sucker is uploaded at this rate. :( The link will probably go up tomorrow morning my time, so don't panic if you don't see anything this evening. *prods net connection in vain hope it will pick up*

Hey, perhaps next time! And thank you for the expressed interest! It should actually be up sometime later tonight, or at latest tomorrow morning. I just hope it lives up to expectations now I've rambled about it! o.O
