HAHAHA! IT'S WAR!
Jun. 20th, 2008 12:21 amThere has been an Escalation of Hostilities in the ongoing war between My Father and The Pub Across the Road.
They are now trying to poison us!
The manager in a suit just happened to pick our house at random to offer a free meal for four people in aid of new staff training. Interesting since they've been refurbishing not recruiting... And you know, since it was the manager. In a suit. AT RANDOM. I'm kinda disappointed my dad wasn't home at the time. Someone mighta got PUNCHED or sumthin'.
Clearly they want my dad to stop riling the locals into a pitch-fork wielding flame-carrying mob. I think he is disinclined to acquiesce to their request.
In Other News, if Nothing Goes Wrong, I have a JOB. Teaching very small south korean children how to speak English. Starting on August 4th, so I suppose I'll be leaving sometime in the preceeding week. I am, to be frank, rather scared, but more scared of what will happen to me if I don't go just because I'm scared. I also find it rather pathetic that one of my major concerns is: how long will it be before I can get an internet connection in our apartment. You know, that and, OMGWTFBBQ SMALL CHILDREN LEARNING THINGS FROM ME?
On the plus side, it's a casual dress code that explicitly allows jeans!
Also the documents we have to send include information about how Kev changed his surname and stuff, so we're hoping they don't find that horribly weird or anything. Especially since there's no real nice-and-tidy way of explaining why.
In Exciting News, I also met
heyiya briefly and she was awesome! There was much discussion of BSG and vidding and things and I had a fantabulous summer fruits smoothie thingy, and apparently I ought to watch the rest of Angel because in season five I will fall in love with Wesley much the way I accidentally fell in love with Tigh. I admit I am still skeptical but this is not the first time I've been told that season five makes up for seasons three and four (not that I watched four). So I'm opening the floor to debate:
Angel: To Watch, or Not?
Finally, In Vidding News, I tried to get on with writing some more of that BSG story, but my head kept making a vid instead (this is what happens when I have like...nine weeks with nothing at all to do, seriously people, co-opt me, I have FREE TIME for the first time in what seems like years. Ideas on how to keep me entertained are welcome.
beccatoria need YOU!). But anyway the point is, the plot of Myth is continuing to unfold in my head, but at the moment a vid has eaten my brain. Fortunately it's short and I'm mostly done with it. Now I just have to find a beta... (
beccatoria needs YOU!)
And, that's about it really. I've spent most of this week in an extremely sleep-deprived scramble of finalising South Korea details and going on long coach rides to obscure government offices, and forgetting to take pictures to show everyone the library I'm going to move into if there's ever a Zombie Apocalypse, and being horribly anti-social and vid-obsessed in between...
Just figured I'd let everyone know how it was going!

Date: 2008-06-19 11:43 pm (UTC)I loved season 5 of Angel. But then again I loved all of Angel except for the Angel/Cordelia romance since it was poorly written and made no sense from a character standpoint imo.

Date: 2008-06-20 01:28 am (UTC)I think if I have to rank the seasons I'd put them in this order: 2,1,5,3, and 4. I don't know what the worst thing was about Season 4, Conner, the Jasmine arc, or the total destruction of the character of Cordelia. The fifth season was a mix of good and not so good. I do think you would like Wes. And I found Illyria to be an interesting character. As big a fan as I was of Spike on Buffy, I'm not sure he was a necessary addition, but I did really enjoy a few of his episodes. And I am still bitter about what they did to Lindsey.

Date: 2008-06-20 03:19 am (UTC)meanwhile I would of course beta your vid! it's the least I can do since you were FORCED to make it by my absence! if you can wait until like sunday when I will no longer be constantly having sex.
I'M SO HAPPY YOU MET ALEXIS! SEE HOW I JUST MAGICKED THAT INTO HAPPENING?
also now that you're twitter RPG friends with

Date: 2008-06-20 05:50 am (UTC)Perfectly reasonable concern!
Congratulations on the job! How little are the children? It sounds so exciting! (Er, in the sense of going to South Korea is exciting, not the code for "children are terrifying" sense. :-)

Date: 2008-06-20 11:08 am (UTC)I hate hate hate Season Five, I'm still trying to erase its memory.
However, I am aware that I am in somewhat of a minority, and your mielage may vary.

Date: 2008-06-20 11:36 am (UTC)Also re: Angel, really? I always sort of liked that romance much more than Buffy/Angel because it was so...wrong? Like there was nothing destined about it but they both sort of grew and changed and "love the one you're with," sort of thing?
Eh, I'm probably weird! ;)

Date: 2008-06-20 11:42 am (UTC)Oh, and you know who I really, really missed? Kate. We just never saw her again after Angel saved her from killing herself. :(
TO be honest, I'm actually sort of...afraid of watching season four, it sounds so awful. Cordy was always my favourite on that show and I always had a real soft spot for Fred even though she came after I stopped liking the show so much, and, well, she sort of gets destroyed and stops being herself too.
Could I skip right past season four and go straight to season five, do you think, or would I be too confused?

Date: 2008-06-20 11:48 am (UTC)It's okay - you mentioned you wouldn't be able to get to SUBURBS until next week anyways, because you had chapter writing and real world stuff to do. Besides,
(Also I am dorkily pleased that I am found to be funny. Gods that twitter rpg was SO FUN!)
it's the least I can do since you were FORCED to make it by my absence! if you can wait until like sunday when I will no longer be constantly having sex.
I TOTALLY WAS FORCED! IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT! Also it probably won't even be done til like, Sunday, anyway.
I'M SO HAPPY YOU MET ALEXIS! SEE HOW I JUST MAGICKED THAT INTO HAPPENING?
CAN YOU MAGIC ANYTHING INTO HAPPENING? LIKE, SAY, BSG IN ABOUT THREE MONTHS NOT SIX?
Also you're right I probably should talk to
Anyway! ::shoos you back to your land of sex and

Date: 2008-06-20 11:52 am (UTC)The kids are going to be really small actually. Like the first year of elementary school small. Though I'm not sure if they're using the American-ish or British-ish system of education so anywhere between four and six?
And thanks for the congrats - it is exciting, though also terrifying! At least I get some training and a curriculum and a co-teacher. And tiny children aren't going to hound me about the finer points of grammar and while I'm sure they're plenty old enough to be unruly and obnoxious it's not like I'm teaching thirteen year olds who will probably deliberately try to make my life hell... ;)

Date: 2008-06-20 11:54 am (UTC)To be honest, I do know the cliffhanger and it doesn't sound so bad. I'm more worried about the fact that I loved Fred and I've already lost Cordy and I'm not sure I really like the epic worldsaving aspects of Angel as much as I liked the quiet case-of-the-week style. But I shall mull it over.
And thanks for the good luck! I'll probably need it!

Date: 2008-06-20 11:59 am (UTC)Darla, Lilah, Cordy, Fred... what a waste of great characters, to have all this awesome potential and then just- flumph. FAIL.

Date: 2008-06-21 02:58 am (UTC)Season 4, imho, was...not good. They also managed to ruin Angelus. I forgot to mention that. The Fred/Illyria thing is complicated because while I wasn't happy that they killed Fred, I did like Illyria. And I could share her disgust with the people she found herself stuck with. :p
I'd say read some recaps of S4 episodes to have a general idea of what happened, but that you don't necessarily have to watch the eps to understand what is going in in S5.

Date: 2008-06-21 03:04 am (UTC)I will say the one episode Charisma/Cordy appeared in was good and helped the character go out on a positive note rather than lingering in coma forever.

Date: 2008-06-24 07:58 am (UTC)Also, I'm a huge Buffy fan, and while I do like Angel, season 5 is my favorite. I encourage you to check it out. I was tempted to skip seasons three and four and just get to season 5, and looking back I think it might not have been very confusing at all to do so.
If nothing else, I recommend seeing the episode "You're Welcome", which is such a beautiful Cordelia episode.

Date: 2008-06-24 02:43 pm (UTC)(Also I am wordy: you will have realised this by now!)
Anyway, thank you so much for dropping by with some feedback! These vids are SO MUCH FUN to make, and it's great to hear that they're being enjoyed.
Thanks also for the Angel information. I'm currently leaning towards watching season five after reading recaps and maybe watching some key episodes of season four. But I don't actually have season five yet so I'm not sure when this watching project will occur. Either way, I'll definitely check out the Cordelia episode you mentioned!

Date: 2008-07-04 04:35 am (UTC)I also loved your "Tricks" video! I'm passing it along to a fellow BSG fan who liked the vid about Hera and her mommy family (which I also loved!).
If you want some recaps from a Buffy fan who also likes Angel (Again, I heart season five, but I also like about 75% of season 4), I'd be happy to oblige! Although I didn't actually watch 100% of season 3; I was impatient to get to season 5... NOT ONLY because of Spike! (ahem.... er... eek, okay, the truth is obvious!).
(I will continue in parentheses, lol. I did absolutely LOVE season 5, honestly not only because of Spike's presence. By the way, and possibly tmi, Julie surprised me one day at a cafe by defining me as a fanboy, and I was delighted to find that she's right. I assumed that I was a fangirl by default. My intense tv crush on Spike was my only real super fangirl episode. [That's not to say that my inner fangirl won't come out again. Hm. Hey, do you think she's 'in the closet'?])
Okay, I'm out of the parentheses now. See, I too can be verbose. Do let me know if you'd like to discuss recaps of season 4. I do think you'd really enjoy the season 5 Cordelia episode "You're Welcome". To be honest, I always disliked Cordelia... though I warmed to her in season four a bit. However, I felt true fan love for her in this episode. (I watched it earlier this evening, actually!)
Okay, I'm going now, lol. I hope you have a good weekend.

Date: 2008-07-04 04:42 am (UTC)That sounds so dumb, but it's true :D. I'm out as a female fanboy with a fangirl in the closet.

Date: 2008-07-05 06:30 pm (UTC)Also thanks for the kind words about "Tricks" and I'm flattered you're going to pass it on to someone: I hope they enjoy it too! "Hera Has Six Mommies" is pretty much too awesome for words, right? It's just AMAZING.
I haven't actually started watching Angel yet - I also need to rewatch a lot of DS9 and some other things, but I think I will end up doing it eventually, like...later this year probably? Thanks for the offer, though. If I get too confused I may well take you up on it!
I was never a huge Spike fan, honestly, but I did like Cordelia, so if that's an episode that even a non-Cordelia-fan liked, that speaks well of it.
And don't worry, Julie thinks I'm a fanboy too! (I think it has something to do with the whole being obsessed with Star Wars and playing Dungeons & Dragons and such things!) So I understand that one!
