BSG Vid Recs!

beccatoriaI've been planning to do this for a really long time, so, no reason to put it off any longer! Here is a comprehensive list of my alltime favourite BSG vids!

hollywoodgrrl: My favourite final four video. Quiet, haunting, sorrowful. It's a lament, I think. All I need is a bitter song to make me better. Much better.
Ain't No Reason bykiki_miserychic: The best damn Razor vid out there. Kendra as she watches Cain, Gina and Kara, in her nihilistic, quiet, angry way. The music is perfect, the editing is slick and I could watch it again and again.
Brothers on a Hotel Bed bysabaceanbabe: This one I liked when I first watched it but it didn't set me on fire. But for some reason I wanted to rewatch it, so I did, and now I have a deep love for this video and its understatement. It's the only Kara/Lee video you'll find here, but I think it says everything I like about their relationship: it's only up to the season three finale but it perfectly prefaces their season four relationship. That growing-up love, that desperate love because here is the person with whom you made that difficult, frightening, exhilirating journey to adulthood and if you lose them, perhaps you lose who you were. Even if it's not still who you are. And now I'm rambling. ;)
Only bycherryice: Final four video (though it expands to encompass most of season three and its brutal violence) with stellar editing. It tells a great big huge awesome story. Language Warning: contains swearing, do not watch if you are a small puppy or kitten.
Chasing Cars byvastvision: Okay, my Laura/Lee bias is showing here, but I promise, it's a beautifully edited video, and the vidder makes wonderful use of nonliteral imagery.
When It's Cold I'd Like To Die byancarett: Scroll down past the fic links to the vid links. It's a very simple, very slow video. It is about exactly what the title says, and despite the lack of fancy editing or a complexity of subject matter it guts me.
A Day Like Today bysdwolfpup: Lee/Laura again, and again, even if you don't ship them, this vid is so beautiful you shouldn't care. I also think that it can be watched as a wonderful character vid for Lee. The earnest, political, responsible and frightened Lee I love best.
Fix You bysdwolfpup: From the Cylon apocalypse in the mini series to the Cylon occupation in the second season finale, this video manages to sketch out the entire arc with such minimal footage (which is not to say a lack of clever editing, because the editing is incredible). It's BSG at its best: the violence and loss of their situation, the crazy situations and zippy ships and nuclear explosions all exist to underpin the sad, sorrowful fumbling way these characters try, and fail, to fix each other.

tli_productions: This video about Saul Tigh is criminally unknown, and my thanks go to heyiya for pointing it out to me. It's all the reasons why Saul Tigh, at the start of season three, suddenly became one of my favourite characters on the show. It isn't even about the fact he's a cylon. Or, rather, it is, but by the time that part of his journey shows up, you're already so committed to the vid and his journey in it that the frakking tragedy of that revelation really hits.
Hera Has Six Mommies bytallulah71: Hera has six mommies. No really. And what's more they have these amazingly complicated relationships with each other and theology and identity. It's a superfabulous vid.
Battlestar Inferno bysuperduperkc: SEX. That is all.
Jolene bynicole_anell: Yes, it's a Cally vid. Yes it's to a Dolly Parton cover. Yes it's fabulous. Really, whether you loved or hated or were utterly indifferent to Cally, this is fabulous. Jolene is the other woman, but Jolene is the Cylon, as women, as violence, as machines, as thieves. It's just really well put together.
Pills byreneedy: Gaius/Gina. Another of those slow, simple, heartbreakers. I think I'm so touched by it because Gina was the one person Gaius seemed to treat as, well, more of a person. I think Gaius at his best was Gaius fighting for Gina. One of the few times he looked beyond himself even if it had disasterous results.
Safe byaycheb: It's hard to find good Laura Roslin vids and this is, in my opinion, pretty much the best there is. Laura is defensive, aggressive, desperate, dying, determined and powerful. She is my favouritest character in the whole show and this vid shows exactly why. It might actually be my absolute favourite.
Mainstream bycharmax: In my opinion, the quintessential Starbuck vid, at least through seasons one and two.
Every You Every Me bytallulah71: This is a Laura/Kara vid, but much like the Laura/Lee vids above, I urge you to watch even if you're not into the pairing because it's really really good. And like all the best 'ship videos, it's also about both of the characters, and it works as a fascinating comparison between the two theological poles of the series.
State of the Union byk_julia: It's a vid about Tom Zarek, well Tom Zarek and Laura Roslin. But more than that it's a vid about politics and it works and it is awesome. It's one of my favourite BSG vids ever, really. Go watch it.
