POLL: What Should I Vid Next?
Nov. 15th, 2008 01:11 amSo, first off, I'm currently working on what may, possibly, tentatively, a bunch-of-things pending become a final bonus addition (mod's choice/the bonus challenge) to my
thearchive2 vidlet series. Also, my vidding program is being vicious right now, possibly in response to my cockiness about how I'm relatively happy with it. Also both of these ideas are in the very early stages, so I attach no timeframes or guarantees to this poll.
Also I was planning actually taking a bit of a break from vidding to try and do something different/not spam the internet and my wonderful borrowed webspace with random vids just for the sake of it
HOWEVER,
chaila43 introduced me to The National via her Mr November vid, and dude. 1) They're awesome and 2) I have two frakking vid bunnies now.
TWO. AND THEY'RE FOR TWO CHARACTERS I'VE NEVER REALLY SPENT ANY VID-TIME WITH. (Well, sort of).
One is for Baltar, who I do like as a character, but also have issues with especially in season four and have never really spent any vid time with except as part of ensemble gen vids. And the other is for ADAMA of all people, who I tend to avoid even in ensemble gen vids and whom I've had issues with since early season three and probably before.
To be honest, this is one of the reasons why I'm thinking of making both of these, because I don't think I'll find songs I want to vid to either of them again and I do like the idea of having at least one vid(let) for each major character in my catalogue, since I tend to view vidding as a way to show the rest of fandom the show from my perspective, and I do love this show in its entirety.
So, getting on with it.
[Poll #1297287]
Baltar/Head!Six is basically a vid about how Baltar can't really love any Six (anyone, really) except Head!Six, and how she becomes more real to him than the real Six(es) due to their totally frakked up situation and his own narcissism, since Head!Six is both him and horrible to him. I'm somewhat worried about making this one because a) my meta commentary that's vaguely apparent in the "Ghosts" vid about how Gaius and his harem get all the attention and the show ignores Caprica still stands and I don't want to glorify that here, but then again I also think that if this is my Gaius-Manifesto vid, tying his character to the fact he invents and imaginary girlfriend to beat the shit out of him is in itself perhaps a step away from glorifying his harem? which leads to b) I don't want to ignore his season four storyline, but this vid doesn't seem to want me to deal with it directly either. Which makes sense since that was when I lost sympathy for Baltar but it is problematic for me in that the spectre of it looms large over his character.
The Adama/Inflexibility vid is about how everyone keeps going away - Lee, Kara, Laura, Tigh, maybe Athena - even though he gives them explicit instructions not to go anywhere. The narrative of the vid is vaguely going to attempt to show Adama struggling to understand his own role in pushing these people away and the way his own inflexibility means that sometimes, he just...watches it happen, and doesn't try to stop it. This vid I'm mostly worried about making because I don't know the Adama footage that well, I don't want it to be boring, the song is very instrumental and I'm worried no one else would be interested in it (though that worries me least, since if I like the vid, that's reason enough for me to make it, I think. But others' interest might spur me to make it first or second or whatever).
So...yeah.
Apparently I have an obsessive inability to stop vidding.
Talk to me! HALP!

There just seems like a lot of possibilites for an Adama vid and I'm kind of over Baltar and Caprica. (If I was ever into them, it would have been way back in s1.)

Date: 2008-11-15 06:21 am (UTC)So it's not exactly a "poor Adama" vid. More of an Adama Realises He's Kind Of A Shitty Dad vid?
Still though, the reason I'm surprised I want to make it is that I see it as a sorrowful and vaguely sympathetic take on him realising that, not a blisteringly mean one.

Date: 2008-11-14 09:09 pm (UTC)So there's my vote, but you know I'd watch any vid you made. :-)
Oh, yeah, and you're totally addicted to vidding, btw. You can't stop the love!!

Date: 2008-11-15 06:23 am (UTC)I intend to make them both anyway, just a matter of deciding which one to make first.
Though I should warn that it's very definitely a Baltar vid not a Six vid. It's about Baltar's perceptions of Six which are pretty different to my perceptions of Six. But yes, still touches on some of the stuff we talked about, I think?

Date: 2008-11-15 06:26 am (UTC)I kind of don't want to make yet another vidlet that's not a part of the vidlet series right after I made so many so it's on the backburner for now, but yeah. At some point I still wanna make it.

Date: 2008-11-15 01:10 am (UTC)HAHAHA. Ha. You totally used "Adama" as an adjective about a vid you're thinking about making. I totally saw that!
If you make a vid about everyone leaving Bill, you might start to like him again, even though it's totally his own fault. Just saying! Adama footage can be rather boring. Man talks on the phone more than he does anything else. Also he stands around being emo a lot. But this sounds really interesting! Um I want you to make both vids. But I vote for Bill, because HEE.
ETA: I got so distracted by the ADAMA that I totally missed The National! OMGYAY! How awesome are they, really? So frakking awesome. I must know the songs you're thinking about! Every song of theirs could be a vid, I swear. Anticipatory yay for these vids!

Date: 2008-11-15 06:31 am (UTC)I just...might start to find him a compelling character I dislike rather than I boring character I also dislike. Damn it all.
And I'm not surprised about the Adama footage being very static. My sneaky plan is to adopt the tactic I used when I vidded Roslin and just use as much of everyone else in other situations as possible and then cut to Adama glowering about it. I feel this is a solid plan!
Re: The National - they are pretty freaking awesome. They're like a cross between the Crash Test Dummies, Barenaked Ladies and 10,000 Maniacs. If that makes any sense?
The songs are "About Today," for Adama/Inflexibility and "All Dolled Up In Straps," for Baltar/Head!Six.

Date: 2008-11-23 09:21 pm (UTC)obviously I am waaaaaaaay too important for a poll and get like eleventy votes. that said, I am sure you would surprise me with how compelling you would make either of these vids. if I had to pick, I nominate Adama, if only because there are a number of Gaius/head!Six vids and until recently 0 (now 1) Adama character study vids.
but hey, don't you want to cook up some vidlet for the final Cylon crossover challenge? then you would have an even dozen in the series, which is a good number for BSG.
I left a comment for
p.s. I showed the Tomorrow Television vidlet to the job people. ;D

Date: 2008-11-24 01:04 pm (UTC)Also, I know of two Adama character study vids? I'm not sure which one you were thinking of, but there's Here I Dreamt I Was An Architect (http://chaila43.livejournal.com/22283.html) by
Re: other stuff! I wouldn't be against dozening off the vidlets. But I've already briefly considered doing the crossover challenge as a bonus and frankly I'm stumped as to how to pull it off. I've never multifannishly vidded before let alone what kind of music I'd choose and...the idea of creating an entirely new narrative with two distinct sources and no overlap is...more than slightly overwhelming. Basically my brain isn't going ZOMG I HAS THE ANSWER so I'm...leaving that be for now. Of course if you have a genius idea, I'm willing to listen.
Also, GRR! How dare people have lives OTHER THAN WAITING ON LJ FOR YOU TO CONTACT THEM RE: SEKRIT PROJECTSES!
I look forward to your comments whenever they're ready, but I meant what I said in the email - I'm in no hurry - take your time to get caught up again. :)
And, OMG RLY, you showed the TV Vidlet? What did they think? I MUST KNOW!
