Date: 2009-01-09 09:22 pm (UTC)I loved it and got most of the connections character-wsie, though I was unsure of the narrative/the story you are trying to tell (i.e. where does each story fit in the other's universe?). The moments at 0:15 and 0:44 where you connect the Hancock universe to the scorched Earth we find in BSG makes me think this is a "future-vid" of sorts? (future-fic/future-vid, whatever. :) )
Favorite moments:
0:37- flash of Sam's cylonic eye on "you said." Because that moment in the ep was really all about the communication. (OT: I loved your Scar/Kara/Sam vid, BTW. It's now my OT3.)
1:14-1:15- LOVES. All you see are her eyes over Hancock's shoulders, and it's SUCH a BSG-shot. (Most of the Hancock clips have the BSG shaky-cam thing going on, too.)
1:51- I love that it ends with more scorched earth over the heart monitor. The beating heart reminds me of the signal that led them there.
I also really like the general musicality of it, too. Like from 0:57-0:59, where the movement of the fingers follows the singer's voice. Nice.
Thanks for a great vid, and sorry about the confusion.

Date: 2009-01-10 11:19 am (UTC)I confess that there isn't really a very coherent narrative to this vidlet but loosely I'm suggesting that yes, it's a future-vid. Since Hancock can't die, perhaps he is waiting for the other four on Nuked Earth and will explain what happened.
I'm glad you liked the closing images. I wanted to use the heartbeat because in the vid I was kind of associating Mary with Earth in my head (the Thing that will Provide Answers about my Unknown Past but isn't Quite What I Wanted), suggesting that just as Mary came back to life (sort of), there might be a heartbeat left in Earth too?
Anyway, thanks for the great feedback! :)

Date: 2009-01-10 05:10 am (UTC)But I think the emotions of his confusion/restlessness really come through and matchup with the final four's feelings. I really also dug the shot of the van on the highway fading into the viper coming out of the launch tube at the 30-sec mark. I rewound and watched that tiny slice 3 times because it looked at first like you faded from the interior of a car to the interior of the viper...anyway just thought that was especially cool.

Date: 2009-01-10 11:27 am (UTC)As to why I chose Hancock? It was a bit of an arbitrary decision really. I have to confess it wasn't something I'd always thought was cool. The final bonus challenge I was responding to was to make a crossover where the final cylon was a character from a show other than BSG. So I had to set about finding a character I a) thought could work in some way and b) had the source for.
Hancock fit on both counts because he's got weird abilities, etc., but absolutely no idea what he is/where they came from/why he's different, and deals with not knowing by drinking (like Tigh and Tyrol) and just generally being self-destructive and kind of an ass (like all of the four at various times). So I thought I could draw good visual and thematic parallels between the two shows. Also Hancock is filmed in quite a handheld and grainy way so I thought that visually the two shows wouldn't jar.
Finally, I love Hancock. Like, I love it to the degree I want to make a music vid just of it and I think it might have been one of the best films I saw last year (and yes, I saw The Dark Knight), but it got so trashed by critics that a bajillion people I know didn't go to see it just because they heard so many bad things. Which makes me sad. Because it's such a beautiful, beautiful movie if you're willing to go with it and understand that the trailer that tried to make it look like Superhero: Jackass is totally inaccurate. Um...which is a long way of saying, I've been looking for an excuse to pimp it somehow and this seemed as good a chance as any. ;)

Date: 2009-01-11 07:27 am (UTC)I'm so pleased that you like it and you flatter me with your compliments! :)
I totally recomment Hancock as a film - it was underrated and had a terribly misleading trailer - but I'm also pleased to know that it fit well without having seen the movie. That was one of my goals.
Glad you like the song! As you can see, this is the second of my three consecutive The National vid(let)s. Adama vid is currently under construction. ;)
I feel weirdly about this song because I love, love, love the chorus (which is what's used here) but kind dislike the rest of the song.

Date: 2009-01-11 03:53 pm (UTC)WHEEEEEE! (in advance)
I dislike most of this song too, but not this part! During my initial The National obsession (which, frankly, isn't over yet) this "I'm just like Tennessee Williams" part was in my head but I couldn't remember which song it was in. I was trying to find it, but I kept skipping "City Middle" because I didn't like it, so it couldn't be that one. So I googled the lyric and lo! It's in the bad song! /good story
The real point of this comment is WHEE Adama vid. :)

Date: 2009-01-11 05:31 am (UTC)Moments:
- the "click" at :58, and also when Hancock's been shot at 1:05. My stomach might have dropped just a little at that one, I like the time you spent on that scene.
- the "parking/overwhelmed" refrain from :30 to :50 or so.
Hancock is terribly underrated. Actually, I see that your Hancock tag has one for movie reactions, I might pop over there to be excited about this for a bit, if you don't mind.

Date: 2009-01-11 07:33 am (UTC)I'm also super-pleased that you liked the 0:58 moment - it's one of my favourite and thanks for taking the time to let me know you enjoyed it.
heads off to see what you had to say about the movie!
