1) A rec:
obsessive24 has made an absolutely incredible BSG vid - Slow Down Gandhi. It's about the politics of the mutiny, the fate of the underclasses, the abuse of power in the political and military hierarchies, dangling Earth like a carrot while letting Cylon fill the Fleet. And it manages to do this in a way that also invites the viewer to cast a critical eye on the vid's narrators - Gaeta, and, to a lesser extent, Zarek. At least as I watched it, I found myself as angry at Zarek for his opportunism and selfishness as I was with Adama and Roslin frakking while the world burns. And Gaeta is in the middle, angry, and making all the wrong choices. Perhaps it's my unfailing love of all things Cylon, but despite
obsessive24's worries, I found the Cylon sections of the vid to be some of my favourites.
Anyway, I want to do justice to the layers of discussion in this vid, but I'll fail if I try, so I will just say, OMG POLITICS! RUN! GO WATCH IT!
Also, if you have any weakness for political rap, the music is amaaaazing.
2) Getting...recced?
So someone decided to link The Enemy Within on TWOP's Gender in Galactica thread.
Which is nice and all, and I'm surprised but glad it's getting a slightly wider audience than I thought and everything. And true, only two people have said anything about it (the poster who linked to it and one respondant), but...both of them seem to have completely missed the fact it's really, really GAY.
I mean...really. Did I not put in enough porn? (Don't answer that, Julie.)
It had actual, literal girlslash goggles.
Oh, internets. I thought you would never fail to see subtext. Or, you know. Text. Which involved nakedness.
3)
This is the What the Frak Happened on Battlestar Galactica official SciFi Recap for Daybreak I.
SPOT THE DELETED BOOMER/HERA AND BOOMER/CHIEF FLASHBACK SCENES.
Weird.

Date: 2009-03-17 01:41 am (UTC)2. Oh the internet. Maybe I know too much about the vid, but isn't it obvious what it's about? What with the NEKID LESBIANS and all?
3. It's like the times when they'd put deleted scenes in the previouslies and I'd think I'd missed an entire scene. I really want to see those Boomer scenes.
While I was watching this my aunt started making fun of it saying, "Helo needs to poop, so he goes to the bathroom. After he's done, he pulls out toilet paper to wipe his ass, but the dispenser is out. Frak."

I mean, I get how someone wouldn't necessarily pick up on the "they always kill the lesbian" tropes or even that they might not quite connect the infectiousness of zombies with OMG I MIGHT CATCH THE GAY! But, to miss the gay entirely is kind of hilarious. Oh internet, you have become so saturated with porn, you have started ignoring it.
3. YES. Except, it's not even in the previouslies now for everyone to see and be confused by. Just in odd online recaps so that only
IWE can be confused by it!I'd laugh at your aunt's comment but then I considered the very serious possibility that they ran out of toilet paper about the same time they ran out of toothpaste... *shudders*

I'm really liking Boomer, so I'm looking forward to watching those on DVD at least.
Ew, I think they still have toilet paper... I hope Starbuck used some when she was peeing a couple weeks ago while Baltar shaved.

Date: 2009-03-17 09:47 pm (UTC)And I don't remember the pain meds thing either. I remember the scene they recap from - it's where Ishay is briefing Cottle on the mission, about the same time we hear Hot Dog relaying the plan to the other pilots and stuff, but I don't remember Laura asking for the pain meds to be lessened either, so I'm betting that's something else that got cut.
Although something weird I noticed is that they recap the first of the Baltar/Caprica scenes, but not the later one where she tells him that she's sorted his father out with a new place to stay.
Normally I wouldn't find that odd and would just assume it was a result of time-issues in recapping. But they even made room for Lee's weird interlude with the pigeon. So like, either the pigeon is far more important than we thought and has, in fact, secretly been manipulating the entire cycle of time or something, or I'm wondering if there were some last minute recuts to this episode?
There's a promo shot of Boomer and Hera on the main SciFi site at the moment. Maybe the Boomer/Tyrol flashbacks got bumped back to the finale and the second set of Caprica/Baltar flashbacks got bumped forward to this episode? /pointless speculation...

Date: 2009-03-17 09:54 pm (UTC)Blah, at this point, I'm just...waiting to see how much the finale disappoints me (honestly, I didn't want to have that viewpoint - I fought it ALL THE WAY UNTIL THIS WEEK) while secretly hoping it will blow me away, and then I'll dissect the good, the bad and the suck, you know?
*nervous*

Date: 2009-03-17 11:26 pm (UTC)I think "post-feminist" should be put in a time-capsule and maybe in the far flung and distant future we will live in a society in which its use will be appropriate...
