cyborganize's query about the official policy on reccing vids already recced? I mean I guess just to avoid duplication I would try to recc new things but if I wasn't sure/it had been a really long time since something got recced, it's not a huge deal if it shows up again? I'm guessing...?

chaila43 - don't worry. It's a new comm and probably yes, people are a bit worried about jumping in and posting, but the drivers will ensure there's regular content and it'll settle into its own rhythm and 'culture'?

*nods* Yeah, pretty much. Now that you mention it, the comms that take a hard line against duplicating recs usually have all past recs saved to memories so people can find them. I wonder if we should start doing that...

Heh, I didn't mean that to come of sounding quite so POST NOW FOR MEEEE! I'm pretty confident that once the reccers hit and you rock the comm your month, it'll settle into it's own rhythm . I was just hoping no one was discouraged from jumping in and playing in someone's else's month. Because I'm even thinking like that a bit with the recs I have planned, will I knock out one of the ones someone really wanted to do? I think there's a lot of potential overlap with the people that are likely to have the most recs. So, if I'VE been thinking about that with a grand total of one rec down... ;)

And those are good questions, so I imagine there'll be a mod post in the future of some sort that puts that info in the official rules and all. But yeah, I don't think it'd be a problem if something gets reposted from a while back. Aww, future comm spec! I wonder what it will be like when it's all grown up. *sniff*

I really think it's okay. Vid recs are kind of most awesome when there aren't like 10 at once? Cause then it's just overwhelming. So don't worry if there's not a flurry of posting? Vids are like fine wine, or something. :)

I can't figure out how I can take or leave BSG yet still want to make and watch vids? It's WEIRD! It's like vidding is an entirely separate fandom than the actual fandom, and I know I've heard people express that before, but I didn't really think I was one of them. :)

I get ENTIRELY what you mean. It's like the one stress-free area of fandom that's left? I mean, sure occasionally I'll skip past a vid I don't think I'll enjoy but...I've ALWAYS done that if it was a vid I don't think I'll enjoy, and as I mentioned previously there's a surprising amount of "let's just not focus on the finale," in the vidding comm which means...I don't feel that the LIKE IT/DISLIKE IT issues are as...front and centre? (Says she planning to make a 4.5 RAGE vid. Oops.)

I do know - as an extremely monofannish vidder though - what you mean about the weirdness of separating the areas out though because for me (and I think for you?) vidding is SOOOO tied up with my opinion on the show, it's basically a visual commentary. So while I totally get "vidding is my fandom" and appreciate it and love the art of vidding, vidding is not my fandom. But maybe BSG vidding is...?

Whatever, I say we don't question it and just go with what makes us have fun!

I think what I've discovered is that I actually enjoy commenting on BSG more than I enjoy the source itself? Which, despite fail, is honestly NOT a new development at all; I haven't rewatched an old episode of BSG since I started vidding a year ago (a year! hee!). I mean, I did think the show would pay me back eventually for that investment, but I guess even though it didn't, I can still enjoy the commenting aspect of vidding. *shrugs* Whatever, BSG, I AM KEEPING THE KVIDS.

ETA: Can we make a crack vid about how we're keeping our baby, where the babies are all the awesome vids and RDM is the papa who should stop preaching his stupid plot and finale? Hee.

I also think BSG vidding is rather separate from the rest of vidding fandom. IT IS THE ONLY FANDOM I LIKE.

you can totally put me in the queue, but by 2010 all my recs may be stale. I'm not so active in fandom so I'd probably be at least in part reposting old recs. I could do February, though, theoretically.

here's another idea: if you give me one day a week I could post regular BSG FEMSLASH vid recs -- if you're interested! I think people haven't seen a lot of that work. I wouldn't want to scoop the official reccers, though, many of whom also like the ladies. does it matter if more than one person recs the same vid?

otherwise I can just post my recs a la carte, no worries.

That's tragic that you have to do real world smart things instead of squee about femslash vids, but as you say, you can TOTALLY just DECIDE to post one a week and I think EVERYONE HERE WOULD LOVE THAT.

As you know, I collect non-canon pairing vids (though not as completely as I used to), and I will definitely be reccing a girlslash vid or two because my goal will be to be really comprehensive and recc a wide variety of vids (finding an m/m slash one's gonna be HARD though if I don't go for Baltar/Gaeta; no wait there was that crazy Sam/Duck constructed reality vid, that'll do.)

But it's not going to be anything like as comprehensive as the knowledge you have of the field, of femslash masterlist person. ;)

I would say try not to duplicate recs at least at first. As the months wear on, I don't think it would be a big deal if more than one person recs the same vid, as most people aren't going to check the archives. So if you get to skip-40 and don't see the vid there, I'd say no worries. Speaking tentatively. ;)

as I said I probably shouldn't make any commitments right now, but I will do my best to start up random reccing. I have ambitions of doing write ups of vids posted AFTER I did massive roundups last summer, but I could repurpose the old ones too. I'm heading out of town tomorrow, though, so you probably won't hear much for me until next week at least. but yay
