Okay all!

Since imeem decided to unceremoniously give everyone 5 days' notice - VIA A BLOG POST - not even a personalised email, so if I hadn't been watching various comms and heard it from a friend I WOULD NOT HAVE EVEN KNOWN - before pulling ALL user generated content from their website.

Boy am I glad I decided AGAINST shelling out for a paid account in case I wanted to upload more than the free limit (which I was already mysteriously over).

Anyway.

I HAVE A NEW HOME FOR MY STREAMING VIDS!

Currently, if you do not have a Bam Vid Vault account, you can't view my profile (though accounts are free). But I can still embed freely, which is the important thing.

I do have some minor reservations about Bam simply because it's entirely dependent on Ning's architecture and Ning recently had to take down the porn streaming sites they were hosting because they were generating too much litigation and copyright infringement notices.

At the same time, nowhere is safe, and since this basically seems to be a fan-created community using a community-streaming site as a platform, the people in charge of the day-to-day running of things are actual VIDDERS. So while - as with everywhere - survival of the site itself might not be assured, at least I'm damn sure the owners aren't going to suspend my account because of copyright infringement issues. Since, you know, vids are the purpose of this entire site.

So, um, just a general purpose notice, in case you cared, I have gone back through all my vid posts (accessible from my "vid" tag - yes, people, I have a functioning sane tag, try not to die of shock) and changed the embed codes so streaming will work again.

I do not really like strawberries. I don't mind synthetic strawberry flavour. You know, it's one of my least-favourite ice cream flavours but I don't exactly hate it and the sauce they put on vanilla ice cream I'd even say is quite nice. But strawberries themselves I just do not get the obsession with.

I am 25 years old. I have actively told my parents, on every occasion they have offered me strawberries, that I do not really like them, since I was probably about...12. Cus, you know, it's not a HUGE PUKING DISLIKE or anything and before then it was kind of fun to be able to eat something that grew in your own garden even if you didn't really like it (see also crab apples and nasturtiums). (Okay, maybe I was a weird kid, I don't know.)

The point is, they're cold, they're slimy, half the time they're kinda sour and I just don't see the fuss about the flavour.

13 years, people. And my parents CANNOT REMEMBER THIS FACT ABOUT ME.

It's gotten to the point now where I think they actually have some sort of mental block about this, because it's just weird. They are lovely, attentive people who have no trouble remembering OTHER things about me. But not this.

To the point it's now become a RUNNING JOKE that they can't remember. You would think the RUNNING JOKE part of it would assist in the, well, remembering. But it doesn't. And I'm 99.5% sure they're not faking it to make me laugh cus I know them pretty well. It's like they only remember it AFTER I have said, "Dad. I don't like strawberries. I've never liked strawberries. Remember?"

Today:

Dad: "Kev, did you want some strawberries? They're lovely and fresh," Dad pauses. Dad looks proud of himself. "Oh wait, you don't like strawberries do you?"

*FACEPALM*

Um...something's getting through at least?

And now you are all free to lower your opinions of me as the strawberry-hating MONSTER that I am!

I dislike strawberries myself. Kind of the huge puking dislike thing. But I get why people forget. They are very pretty and I don't mind picking them and giving them to people, like flowers.

But yeah, a lot of the time I do faintly remember sourness! Or crazy syrupy-sweetness. But for me, I think the seeds on the outside trip me up the most. Not going in my mouth. But you're right. They are so pretty I think people can't imagine why one would dislike them. But I do.

I thought it was only me. :-)

I'm not on the BAM bandwagon yet. I only have a few vids and Vimeo is working for now. And I'm not a big embedder. It really takes so long for a page with a lot of embeds to load. One day there will be a mythic site where little vids are safe. I'll miss the vids on my Imeem playlists. I hope the vidders find homes for them that I can find since I don't have time to dl them all today.

But yes, I do know what you mean about the prettiness; that's lovely that you like to give them like flowers!

And yeah, it's like...sour-sour-sour-OVERRIPE SUGARY SWEETNESS with no mid-ground. Evil fruit... I don't mind the seeds though, but I get how they could be offputting.

If Vimeo is working okay for you, then there's no reason to change. Since I had to change anyway, I decided I'd rather not have to password protect my vids and even then wonder if I was gonna find my account suspended without warning. It's a shame because Vimeo has great quality streaming, but I just don't trust them.

I really hope everyone reups their vids too. I'm quite worried about that - I tend to DL vids when that option exists anyway - I'm a bit of a digital packrat - but there isn't always and DLing from something like Imeem is quite difficult and often in poor quality, though I have done it once or twice in desperation.

Yes, to the syrupy CRAZY SWEETNESS. I think people are sugar fiends. Goes back to the days when we were cave people and sweets were rare and for energy. But I was picking wild strawberries the other day for friends and they were so overripe they almost burst in my hands. GROSS. And the smell! But when I give them to friends people are almost orgasmic with the sweetness. Go figure.

I feel like Imeem kicked out everyone's kittens and we are scrambling for homes for them or apartments where they are allowed. Aww, poor unhomed viddies. I hope I find where they all land. I've done absolutely nothing with my own vids yet. I haven't even password protected. But really I only have three vids on Vimeo at this time. I'll see if I can at least have two vid homes for vids in the future in case one site goes unexpectedly witch-hunty or something.

Oh wow, you reuploaded all your vids already! I should do that. There is some fuckery going on with my aspect ratios though and I am just anal retentive enough to potentially eventually rerender them all until they look right for streaming. A pox upon aspect ratios.

I KNOW. I almost paid for an account like two weeks ago but ultimately decided against it since there was no embedding anymore. I would have been so pissed! I will miss imeem though, the fuckers.

Yeah I pretty much decided against it when I realised there was no embedding, because I do at least have a wonderful vidspace providing overlord to house my DLs so I don't need a vid website per se, so much as ability to embed in posts. BUT STILL.

I did upload all my vids, but actually it was a fairly quick process. I had much less trouble with Bam's upload feature than I uses to with Imeem that used to "lose" my video half the time.

UGH ASPECT RATIOS. You remind me. I recently like, lost a bunch of my source that I'd ripped myself so they were all the same dimensions? Except cus I was lazy and my DVD drive's a bit dodgy these days unless I drag out the external one, I um, re-procured my source from other locations. And then realised that, great, they aren't QUITE the same shapes and unless I resize half of them I'm going to get those annoying thin black lines at the tops and bottoms of half of them. *cries*

If it helps, I've never particularly noticed that problem with your vids?

Well, this comes as quite a shock. I guess it takes all kinds to make up the world, though. ;)

Of course, I'm not one to talk. I love to eat raw lemons and limes. Mmmm. And I'm not at all a fan of any artificial strawberry flavors; strawberry ice cream is blech unless there's some chocolate in the mix. Hence the icon. ;) But I do love strawberries themselves, especially when they're a little sour.
