Eeeeeeeeee! This is so EPIC! I've been waiting for a vid like this! I've always kind of thought Fringe and TSCC had similar imagery and this proves it. Also, Sarah and Olivia? Biggest BAMFs that ever crossed the screen!

Thank you! :D [livejournal.com profile] chaila43 totally gets credit for pointing out all the parallels to me but yesssss the shows really are so visually similar, and their lead characters are total BAMFS

GLEE! I SO HOPED YOU WOULD DO THIS! Of course I love it! It is so very creepy and sad and, yes, unsettling. And also they are awesome. I really like how you actually vidded it as parallel universes with the two stories always going on in tandem in overlays with the dominant visual focus switching back and forth. The editing made it all look very intertwined and the universes seemed to actually bleed into each other, which is totally perfect as well as being pretty. There are seriously a startlingly number of visual parallels and you made them all so visually arresting, matching motion and where things are in the shot and things like that. I would pick out the most visually arresting places where the universes seemed to overlap, but that would be like every one. Plus, rescuing themselves and attacking with syringes ftw! I LOVE THEM. (Oh man I wanted Fringe to be my new TSCC with kickass women rescuing themselves and being in charge and driving the narrative and being a little afraid and a little bit damaged but not letting that stop them from saving the damn world).

ETA: I am now amused that basically the only shots in this that focus primarily on a character who isn't Sarah or Olivia are the two with Ellison and Walter watching them on TV, who are respectively my favorite relationships on the shows. :) /ETA

Thanks for doing this. <3

Now how do I get someone to write me the crossover fic?

HOW MANY VIDS THAT I THOUGHT YOU SHOULD DO HAVE YOU TRICKED ME INTO DOING NOW? *facepalm* *hugs you*

I did consider just showing clip after clip because I was afraid I wouldn't have enough footage if I did it this way but it...didn't feel right, either for the concept, or for the music, which is just SO creepy and haunting and...overlayish.

You really do get credit for noticing all the visual parallels though. I admit, I found a few more, more easily than I thought once I started thinking about it, but your picspam was the genesis and without it I never would have started looking for them in the first place. <3 ATTACKING WITH SYRINGES!

(Oh man I wanted Fringe to be my new TSCC with kickass women rescuing themselves and being in charge and driving the narrative and being a little afraid and a little bit damaged but not letting that stop them from saving the damn world).

Me toooo, and I'm not sure if I'm overly naive or overly cynical that I still keep waiting for that to happen, yet refusing to believe it every time it looks like it might.

It is interesting that Walter and Ellison get paralleled there in that way because, like you say, I love them and their relationship to the heroine buckets and buckets in each show, but while the heroines are, arguably, very similar, Ellison and Walter are wildly different. Interestingly, it's probably Kyle who best fulfills Walter's role narratively, or maybe even John, on an emotional level, while Ellison, I suppose, is more like Peter in narrative terms. And yet while I ship Ellison/Sarah liek whoa, I can't bring myself to ship Peter and Olivia.

As to the crossover fic, that you might actually have to do yourself. ;)

OMG, I DO NOT KNOW HOW THIS COULD BE MORE AWESOME! Sarah+Olivia is the best part of any number of universes.

I love this little song fragment too, your editing to those clicking beats sets the mood much more than the lyrics to me, so creepily relentless and there's always some new, fascinating visual parallel with every reveal. It's so awesome, I can't even! SO GOOD.

I HAVE A THEORY THAT THEY ARE IN DIFFERENT UNIVERSES BECAUSE IF THEY WERE IN THE SAME ONE IT MIGHT EXPLODE OF AWESOME, WITHOUT EVEN NEEDING A PETER-POWERED MACHINE.

And ommmmgggs, yes, the song fragment is so great, right? I never knew clicks could be so creepy.

I'm really glad you enjoyed this and thanks for letting me know. :)

That was awesome! I recently started rewatching Fringe again and still get stuck at episode 4. But, this! I LOVE OVERLAYS WITH A UNHOLY PASSION! So I loved this. And women! In charge! With guns! And Walter. I love Walter, always did.

So yay, vid!

Thank you! See, Fringe is weird. The first half season isn't really that awesome, it's like it's trying to be the X-File but grosser. It's really the second half of the first season that hits its stride, starts making the grossness in service to something, starts doing character stuff that sticks, starts making me feel less like the episodes are all unrelated standalones. But...it's not for everyone and I can see why you didn't stick with it. But yes, Walter. I'm really glad that you love him too. :)

AND WOMEN IN CHARGE WITH GUNS!

It was really interesting for me to work with overlays because I so rarely do it. And I'm so often furious with them when I do use them because I like to be in control of the image, and with overlays you have TWO and what if they're different SIZES and all SORTS of things like THAT! I get so het up about the whole thing I usually just don't bother, so this was a fun chance to say, you know what, this is supposed to be messy and impressionistic and moody, and to just run with it.

Thanks for commenting! :D

Just butting in to say try skipping the first episodes and just jump into the deep end of the pool by starting mid-season. I gave up at episode six the first time around, but went back because I needed someone like Olivia on my screen, and it gets so much better :D

Okay, you've convinced me! Christmas holiday watch! I have to just get the DVDs and do a marathon. Power through. I don't want to skip anything but maybe I'll bake cookies or something while watching.

I'm curious why other people slung through the first season, though, not knowing it would improve. Those first eps do count, you know?

If only I liked that Josh guy on my screen but I don't. Walter! I just want more Walter.

goodbyebird: Friends: Joey and Chandler do a very happy hoppy hug thing. (Friends yaaaaay!)
From: [personal profile] goodbyebird
Yes, I suspect a lot of people liked looking at Josh hehe. I was so surprised at last year's Fandom Steel Cage Match, as I'd expected the fight to be between Walter and Olivia, but then Peter was the one with tons of votes. My finger is certainly not on the fandom pulse oy.

Walter is definitely the best part in the beginning, a fascinating character to watch; Olivia is a quiet sort of character, but after a little while she becomes just as fascinating. A female character like her is a rarity for sure.

So happy you're giving it a shot! Early Christmas present for me ;)

Hee! I am giving it a shot! It's hard. For me, I needed some LJ support so I think I'll finish season 1. But whoa, this was a hard series to get into and I'm still not quite there yet (1x15).

Thanks for the encouragement. Seriously, your comment here really tipped the scales into me starting to watch.

And I want to watch all the cool Fringe vids with a bit more insight. :-)

Ah I see you're having problems connecting with Olivia. She can be tough to read sometimes, but she's going to grow on you *pinky swear* and you'll get some glimpses into why she turned out the way that she did.

And don't worry, I wasn't quite into it by 1x15 either. Hard to say exactly when, since I mainlined pretty much the first two seasons(I think the final eps of season 1 is pretty awesome and mytharch heavy, and then season two rolls around and turns up the volume. Season 3? Rinse and repeat *g*). But it goes nowhere but up!

If only there were more Fringe vids!

Pinky swear? Hee. Okay. You did tell me to just jump into season 1 and I didn't listen. But you were right the eps I fell asleep on, I don't think I missed much in. Especially if I only watch season 1. (I may only have tolerance for one season, unfortunately.)

But it would be quite the feat if Olivia grew on me. I don't dislike her but she has to compete with Walter for my affections. :-) No matter what evil Walter ever does, I think I'll always love him more. :-)

Thanks again. *off to read your thoughts on Misfits*

So, I haven't watched Fringe yet. (It's on the list. It's a long list.) But I still find this awesome. Maybe it's because there's a character out there that calls back to Sarah Connor. I especially like where they sort of blend together, with the kissing heads and swinging at the end.

Thank you! I'm especially pleased if you enjoyed it in spite of knowing only half the shows involved. I was amazed to see how well the footage blended actually; the shots where they were not only engaged in similar activities, but at similar distances, framed in the same way with the camera.

This vid is made of awesome. I love the way you layered them--it highlighted the comparisons between Sarah and Olivia and it works well thematically for both sources, with parallel/alternate timelines and unhinged identities. It's creepy how similar their stories are!

Wow. WOW. My favorite vidlet so far, possibly in the wooorld. Incredible use of the overlays, and even being familiar with only TSCC I was so compelled by both of them on this parallel journey.

O.O
this is one of those crossovers that stuns with how epic it is, and how hard it would be to get right...and you got it right. you got it perfect.

Olivia and Sarah have been through a lot of similar things, and they're both tough-as-nails...and beyond that (and the looming threat of the End Of The World) they're night and day.

*standing ovation for you* brava!

ps: it was a hard decision, picking an icon for this - "you melted my brain" or this or "Lim and I can't hear you over how awesome you are".
