DUDES. It has been forever since I posted any vids. Because I have been doing silly things like Making Things for Cons which Cannot Be Released Forever (or, in the case of one of them, until just over a week from now omgs). So, possibly I should have spent more time on it, but GLEE A VID ATE MY BRAIN. To one of the most overvidded songs on the planet even! :D

OMG. This is so beautiful. And the way it cycles between the three and Olivia, Olivia. My heart for Olivia. The parallels between what was done to her and what is happening to her now.

Peter was even... I could even feel for Peter here.

The song choice is perfect!

Thank you! Yeah, I was all, "let's make it about everyone. ESPECIALLY OLIVIA." Because I am transparent that way. <333

I'm so glad that I caught a good feel for Peter. You know that, like you, I struggle with him, but I wish that weren't so and...I wanted to include him here in the way I wish he was always included? Anyway, glad that it worked. Thanks again for the feedback.

What a beautiful vid. A great choice of music, too. Surreal, tragic, perplexing and complex--everything Fringe brings to its storylines.

Oh, this is GORGEOUS with all the overlays and repeated moments.

I especially loved everything, actually:

-Peter and Elizabeth at the beginning
-the White Tulips
-Olivia's turn at "the dreams in which I'm dying"
-wow, you already have Bell in there
-the combo of Olive and Olivia starting about 2:31, because so perfect.
-just the flow of it. This is another of my favorite overvidded songs, so I'm completely thrilled this one ate your brain!

Date: 2011-04-01 07:47 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] beccatoria.livejournal.com
Thank you! As usual you pick out so many of my favourite moments too. The Bell thing was fortuitous - I was starting to plan the vid around the time that episode aired and I had vague plans for using Bell on that line and I was like...oh perfect(ly awful).

Sometimes you just have to go with the overvidded song choice, right? ;)

Amazing. The parallelisms, the sadness... there's an elegance to your vids, and such a wonderful sense of rhythm and symbolism. It's really really lovely. <3

Date: 2011-04-01 07:49 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] beccatoria.livejournal.com
Aww, thank you so much. I am particularly pleased the parallels came through as it's not something I often try to concentrate on (because I'm kinda lazy!) so it's really awesome to hear that it's working.

That was very sad and very good. I love young!Peter and tiny three-year-old Olivia. And there were zeppelins!

It's a very vidded song but I still like vids to it anyway. (I also think Breathe Me and Untouchable are very vidded but I love vids to them anyway!)

Second watch: Aww. Your vid is making me far less woobie about Walter than I usually am. The things he did. :-(

Date: 2011-04-01 08:05 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] beccatoria.livejournal.com
\o/ Thank you. ZEPPELINS! They make everything better. I guess it's very vidded for a reason right. ;)

Re your second watch: yeah, that's the thing about Walter, isn't it? It's like...impossible to really reconcile what he did with the way he is now. That challenge is one of my favourite things about the character, but it's not easy. :(

Omg it's here already! And it's gorgeous! So I don't know all the context for this, but the repetition of similar imagery and motion pulled me all the way through. The parallel visuals are really excellent. I love how all the moments almost seem to pulse in and out over each other, bleeding different moments and different characters together; that really works to make it murky and dreamy as the past and the present meld together. This also tied Peter, the boy in the wrong universe, to the misplaced children--like Olivia obviously, but even the other cortexiphan kids--in a really interesting way that I think I wish the show would have played up more? I see a lot of that boy in adult Peter with Walter and Elizabeth in this vid, whereas I don't often in the show anymore.

Favorite bits:
- Peter and Elizabeth (?) falling in the ice and Olivia in the water of the tank
- Standing in circles not quite holding hands
- "Happy Birthday," DEAR LORD
- Cortexiphan kids and "no one knew me"
- OLIVIA, ALL THE OLIVIA, especially the bits with her faaaaaace. I just...want to snatch her child self away and cuddle her forever so she doesn't have to go through it all again, and still.

Date: 2011-04-01 08:10 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] beccatoria.livejournal.com
It is here! I totally got impatient! :D I'm so glad it works for you even not knowing all the context. What I wanted most was a hazy, repetitious, dreamlike experience.

I'm also really, really pleased that Peter comes through that way - I very much wanted to point to him and Olivia as Lost Children rather than star-crossed lovers, which, like you, is an angle I wish the show would make more of (and probably why I love them more as broken siblings than epic romance but that's a rant I've already ranted at you many times!)

- "Happy Birthday," DEAR LORD

THANK YOU THAT IS QUITE POSSIBLY THE BIT I LIKE BEST. BUT ALSO ALL THE OTHER BITS YOU MENTIONED.

And yes, that is Elizabeth falling through the ice - she dives in to save him which I really liked because even though I'm sure nothing huge will be made of it (nor do I really think it needs to be), I like that she has also now saved Peter's life.

Gorgeous vid. I wasn't going to watch it, since all I've seen so far is the first episode, which doesn't give me much context to work with, but the song sucked me in. Turns out, I don't really need the context to love the vid. I so need to watch me some Fringe. I have the s1 DVDs, I just need to make the time.

Thank you! I'm really glad it manages to be preeeeetty even without context!

Although it really is an interesting show! Though I will warn you, while I highly recommend watching it, it's (a) surprisingly standaloney for a show with such rich mythology, though that improves over time and (b) a bit uneven and slow going to start with. It's around the middle of the first season it picks up and towards the end of the first season they really begin taking strides in their mythology.

I'm impressed you already have an icon! :D

I love everything this video chooses to be.

All the parallels between the past and present, the different yet similar situations the characters find themselves in, is gorgeous.

This song is really emotional so of course the video is, but you've done wonderful things matching a lot of the clips with the lyrics both emotionally and visually.

Thank you. The show itself has just really delivered lately on the callbacks both obvious and more subtle and I wanted a chance to play with that, and I'm so happy I managed it. The song was almost intimidating to work with because it's so popular, and I didn't want to piggyback on the resonance it already had with people, so it's gratifying to hear that the specific choices in the vid worked to enhance that. ♥

what a lovely, complex vid. I love the connections that you draw, especially young Olivia and the fire, and the "happy birthday" line, and the part with Olivia drawing away from Walter after all the childhood experiments and Walternate closing the window on her. Looking at this, it's amazing that she doesn't resent Walter more.

On the concrit side, I admit I found the lots of crossfades a bit hard on the eye, but that might just be me. :)

Date: 2011-04-01 08:35 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] beccatoria.livejournal.com
Thank you! The show's been bringing the parallels and connections hard lately and I'm glad I managed to deliver on them. I think that Olivia's relationship with Walter is one of the most interesting things on the show. I think she is furious with him a lot of the time? And does resent him? But there's also so much quiet, stoic practicality and an ability to recognise the futility of looking for closure in this current, broken Walter that she...shuts it down a lot? Anyway, yeah, it's a really interesting thread of the show.

Regarding the crossfades, going overboard on them was a conscious decision to break from my usual style in an attempt to create a kind of dreamlike mess and I'm...mostly happy with how it came out. In the end I decided to go with my gut and just release the vid since I've spent the last few months fiddling with vids for Cons I couldn't release for ages and just wanted to remind myself of the Joy Of Vidding and then throwing it into the world. But the one thing that made me hesitate and wonder if I should let it lie for a while or throw it in front of other people like I usually would, was concern that the rhythm/clarity of the crossfades wasn't exactly right. So I get that it could be a murky in places rather than...whatever it was I was gunning for. ;)

oh, AMAZING. Parallels! The show does them so well and I've been waiting for a vidder to make real use of all the great stuff we've got recently. This is just great - it effortlessly captures the real heart of what I love about the show. <3

Thank you! :D Parallels! Honestly, I think if the show didn't do them so well, you would have needed a different vidder to catch them, because it's not something I generally do that well, but in a lot of ways that made it SO MUCH FUN to be able to do it here. It was like a whole new way of vidding!

Thanks again - I'm so happy I managed to capture that part of the show for you; this is definitely the heart of what I love about the show too. <3
