After Fringe and Doctor Who impressing me loads last week, this week they were both a bit meh, so instead of talking about them, I made this cus I was bored. It is short, but as it is over two minutes, I declare it a full-blown vid.

Title: 1969

Awesome! I like the use of the slap with the music at 0:26, the sequence at the beginning, and the sense of dread that built as the video progressed.

Thank you! :D I'm really glad you enjoyed it - the build up of dread and creepiness was definitely what I was gunning for, great to know it worked for you. Slapping! ;)

Oooh, this is so creepy and good... Loved the flickering cuts with the Silence. This season of Doctor Who is so exciting and disturbing and temporally complex! <3

Also, "this vid is actually 8 minutes long." LOVE.

Thank you! I'm simultaneously incredibly excited for this season with the way so far it's setting up to potentially be even better than last season with just as much emotional satisfaction but even more creepy, twisted awesome, and really worried about how excited I am because the last time that happened to me, it turned into BSG 4.5... (No, I will really never get over that, I think!) Um, anyway, to go back to the vid, though, these opening episodes really did deliver - really glad you think it's atmospheric. I'm not really used to working with instrumentals so I was a bit worried it'd fall flat.

Also, "this vid is actually 8 minutes long." LOVE.

TRUFAX. :p

This is so creepy and atmospheric; I love how you first introduce the Silence with the beginning of the new sounds in the music, and the build of the creepy from there throughout the whole thing with the increasingly frantic music. I also love how you've so clearly conveyed the memory and forgetting aspects of these eps, like how you start with the Doctor's death and show flashbacks to earlier and the flashbacks to the burning from the diner, and of course all the ways you've shown through either repetition or gestures or expressions that they forget their encounters with the Silence. 8 minutes long indeed! And that last flash of lightning on the Doctor's face after snogging. Awesome. <3

\o/ Thank you! With very short and rare exceptions, I've never really don't an instrumental vid before so I was a bit nervous, and having the rough structure of the episodes to follow narratively was a big help to the problem of not having lyrics to provide that structure, so I cheated a bit, but I was definitely hoping to make something creepy and atmospheric primarily, which is a bit different to what I usually go for (more narrative or...messagey? A bit? Maybe?), so yay for reassuring me that it works. <3 Also <3 for the whole thing about the memories and forgetting. It really is such a creepy idea and I knew I wanted to flash between the expressions in that bit, but didn't realise it'd be quite as chilling as it turned out.

And that last flash of lightning on the Doctor's face after snogging. Awesome. <3

♥ forever.

Oh, this is great! The music and the editing are fabulous, and it plays pretty effectively, I think, as a really great trailer for the eps.

Thank you so much! It's always nice when I hear my vids play well as trailers because I more often make ones that are aimed at viewers with prior knowledge, but this time I was trying to be a bit more, well, recappy, atmospheric and/or trailery. SO YAY! :D

Thank you so much! It really was a bit of an experiment for me in terms of trying to do an atmospheric instrumental so it's incredibly gratifying to hear that I hit the right notes for the tension. Thanks so much for letting me know you enjoyed it.

I've watched a couple of times now and the beginning still makes me jump. Insanely good pacing, and I have no idea how it manages to keep me hanging on in suspense when I've seen these episodes like three times now. Obviously it's just a really awesome vid.

Lots of little flourishes I love too, like the Doctor kicking off the beat at :30, the TARDIS reappearing, and ohhhh the little girl almost smiling at the end.

this vid is actually 8 minutes long

Thank you so much, that really means a lot to me. Pacey, atmospheric instrumentals isn't really what I usually do, so I'm really, really happy that it manages to evoke the jumpy nature of the original episodes. <3

And OMGS that little girl, I really need to know who she is, like, yesterday. Can't wait to see how the show will pull itself out of that dilemma (if she's a Time Lady then whut, but if she's not then whut fake out). /random episode spec. ;)

*dies*

I promise I didn't program you to do anything too creepy in those extra minutes. :p

Oooh, I like this so much! I love how the layering of shots mirrors the layering of time/memories that occurs in the episodes. It's really well done and it does emphasize that so much more happens in the episodes than we see or they remember. The instrumental works really well - I can't imagine doing something like this with lyrics!

Thank you! Sorry for the late reply - I seemed to have missed that a bunch of people replied to this: what a lovely surprise!

I'm so pleased the gaps in the narrative come through here. I agree about the lack of lyrics - the song itself just has so much escalation and tension I couldn't not do something with it.

this is so aesthetically stunning! I love how you worked with the soundtrack to turn the episodes into a sort of visual poem. is it really your first instrumental vid?? it reads rather like a trailer -- in the good sense, as in, I think muggle fans would find it widely accessible and very cool.

Thank you! :D

Yeah, I was definitely thinking along the trailer-y lines when vidding it, so I'm glad that works. I think it basically is my first instrumental vid? The only other ones I can think of are the vidlets (for Helo and Kara as part of Navimamo and thearchive2 project respectively). So I have done it before, and this is also quite a short vid, so that made it easier, but it's the first time I've done a non-challenge related proper vid without any lyrics, yes.

As usual, I'm in awe of your editing skills. This really captures the sense of dread and doom which ran through these two episodes. Including that WTFBBQ ending.

I'm really glad the feeling of dread comes through - it was so prevalent in both the episodes and the track it felt like a natural match. And that ending, WTFBBQ indeed. o.O

I'm not a Doctor Who fan at all, but I was mesmerized by this vid when I saw it at VVC last week. It's creepy and atmospheric, and the build of tension is phenomenal, and generally I thought it was stunning. Amazingly effective blending of visuals and music.
