Vidlet Project Crazy Notions: vote?
Oct. 3rd, 2008 07:35 pmSo, I've sent my seventh vidlet off for betaing which means it's time to start thinking about my next one. The challenge is 'microscopic', which I'm having a rough time with. I don't want to do it about the unborn flipper baby because
kiki_miserychic already did that and did it really well. So, my main idea is doing a final four video, like, the difference between the final four and everyone else is microscopic, but everyone thinks it's so big.
HOWEVER, it's proving really difficult to find a song I'm excited about doing for them, let alone one I can also cut down reasonably easily.
So far my options are:
1) God Shuffled His Feet by the Crash Test Dummies. I love the idea of doing this one because it has lines like, "and if your eye gets poked out in this life, will it be waiting up in heaven with your wife?" and other such lolarity, but I'm a little fraught on lyric matching occasionally and I'm worried that it'll come across as 'quirky' but not really that great. Also I have a niggling notion it would work better as a full length vid post-series finale.
2) The Unforgiven Ones by the Crash Test Dummies (why yes, they seem to be popular this evening). This is much more sombre and would be a look at the FF as the 'unforgiven ones', unforgiven for what they are/have done to both species. Problem is I can't bear to cut it down. It makes me want to do a full-length vid about them. Which is something many other people have done and I'm not sure I wouldn't just end up editing it rather blandly. AND YET, the lyrics are interesting. AND YET, I'm not sure I want a full-length vid in my vidlet project.
3) Attempt to somehow cut down "I want to be Evil," by Eartha Kitt as a Tory vidlet. Because SPORFLE. Or possibly as a general FF vidlet because "I'm noted most for my unspoiled gender," where gender=cylonicity = win. But despite being in love with the hilarious premise I have severe doubts about whether I could cut the song down to size because I would need some of the minute-long intro to frame it, but not all of it and it's too long. :/ Plus on numerous repeats the lyrics aren't getting easier to visualise as they usually do.
4) Be brave, use an instrumental and build your own damn story, girl. Probably that Jump, Little Children intro that you love (even though you hate the rest of the song).
5) THE BOSS! Radio Nowhere. To be honest this is a stupid choice because I'm stumped beyond, "Radio Nowhere! They were all listening to the radio!" but it's Bruce Springsteen, and one should never need an excuse to love the Boss.

Date: 2008-10-04 05:04 pm (UTC)I do understand your feeling of not being 'worthy' of the title. I still don't really feel 'worthy' of it, but I'm getting closer to accepting that that's just me being daft and that if I spend this much time doing it it's time to just bite the bullet and call myself a vidder.
Also, I know none of the lingo either. Well, not so much of it. I'm completely self-taught (like most vidders I suspect), and have only very, very recently - as in the last few months - begun to socialise with other vidders and discuss vidding with other vidders. And even then not many. So like you, I'm stuck with what words to use. But I do know what you mean about effects vs effects there.
If it helps your confidence, once I realised I needed to make a vid with quick jump cuts, I just...tried it and found it wasn't as terrifying as I thought it would be. It was just a fiddly matter of fiddling until it sounded and looked right. The same with most other effects I've ever wanted. You'll just slowly find yourself becoming more comfortable with more intricate work.
And I shall continue to consider you a vidder because someone out there ought to if you won't, because you'll always feel that someone/most other people are far better than you! And I can't wait to see what you come up with next!
Since neither of us will likely be vidding it until after the finale, I guess you have time to practice and I have time to think on it?
