What about Helena?
Yeah, there are quite a few 'loves' left out, including Gaius from Gina's POV and D'anna from Caprica's. I could have traced Gina's death to her love for Cain but it didn't seem right or as compelling, narratively, as making the actual nuke one of her loves. Cus look at her face when she sees it and tell me that's not love - love of the possibility of revolution, love of destruction, love of power, love of finally managing to commit an act entirely on her own terms - whatever. It was love. (Or perhaps I just sekritly wanted to make a Gina/Gaius/Nuke vidlet to go with 'Scar'... :p)
Basically I liked the unexpected materialism of it, and the fact it wasn't a person like the others. And I still can't help but think of Cain as the love that didn't kill her even though she expected it to. And while her experiences on board the Pegasus and the her relationship with Gaius were both contributory to Gina's mindset when she detonated the thing, I don't want to reduce her actions down to a reflexive response to either person?
Bah, I'm no longer sure. The point is, it's a nuke! Gina's in love with it! Gina/Nuke OTP!

Date: 2008-10-10 05:37 pm (UTC)I'm still surprised that there's no Cain, but I get it and completely agree with your reasoning.
I really like the use of jumpcut editing. While time toggles get the job done, sometimes jumpcuts service the purpose better. The red glowy spine, Gina's hand reaching for the fruit, and Caprica's hand are my favorites.

I'm also superpleased that the jump cutting is working. I thought about time toggles or fades or what-have-you, but I decided that I wanted it in tension with the romantic music and that it was more mechanical and unexpected to use the cuts. The red glowy spine bit was the first time I decided to try to use much, much faster cuts to see if it improved the concept or just ended up confusing, so I'm glad that's a favourite of yours: I love it to. As with Gina's hand - it's so...creepy? Or maybe just sad. :(
Anyway, thanks for the feedback!
