beccatoria: (laura roslin this damn much)

So, I am officially declaring myself better enough to squee loudly at the new BSG trailer, even if my body is still, apparently, trying to hack up one of my lungs. I would, however, consider that an adequate price if I got to see S4.5 early. You know, just in case anyone was wondering.

But whatever, BSG TRAILER. Obviously, SPOILERS FROM SAID TRAILER FOLLOW.

To get the most important point out of the way:

"I AM COMING FOR ALL OF YOU!"

Oh Laura, there is no way you screaming that cannot be awesome. Although for the record I disapprove of showing that shot right before Bill in the airlock as it makes it look like you're in a piss because your boyfriend is being picked on or something and while I may not be able to save you from that travesty of a relationship, I can subtly remind you that you do things like SCREAM THE HOUSE DOWN AND SCARE THE EVERLIVING SHIT OUT OF EVERYONE when you're pissed about like, the fate of humanity and shit, not when your man's managed to get himself potentially airlocked.

Though really, I'm not worried the show's gonna use that clip in that context so why am I whittering on?

Back to the point. OMFGLAURA.

I'm still sad I think you won't be a cylon, but you'll never let me down in terms of pure awesome.

I vaguely disapprove of all the various kissings but whatever *handwaves* there was more than enough awesome to go around. Plus remember how I actually really liked the Kara/Lee kiss in 4.02? Yeah. Context will be needed before I render judgements.

I'm oddly unmoved by Bill standing in the airlock. Mainly because it's never gonna actually end up getting him airlocked and if it does: XD OMFGBILL you just redeemed your ENTIRE CHARACTER, because that would be high-larious.

But again, I disapprove of all the clips from Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down quasi-suggesting Adama might be the final Cylon because seriously, that would be the boringest reveal ever. And I don't even think that's entirely due to my prejudice against him. It's just...not really that interesting an option.

AHAHAHAA Zarek. I'd forgotten how easy it was to get pissed off with you. I really...dude that guy's a shithead. I keep trying to see him as a mistaken but honourable idealist or something, but no. He's just an ass. And one who honestly doesn't seem able to tell whether he wants to be inside the tent or outside it and therefore ends up trying to behave like he's outside the tent while he's inside it because he demanded to be and then doesn't get that he's being all the hypocritical and rule-breaky he used to hate.

I think the part that got me most ticked at him (and given that all we see are tiny hints and suggestions here of what's going down, I got surprisingly ticked at him), is his high-handed, "You can't force an alliance with the cylons down our throats or there will be consequences," like he's...ever given a shit about that before?

I don't mean he colluded or allied with them, I mean that Zarek's problem, for the entire fucking series is his inability to factor the Cylon into any of his plans or the way he sees the future unfolding. He keeps going on and on about how they have to create this new society from the ashes of the old one, while behaving as though said society isn't on the run from genocidal robots. He lands on a planet to create said new society while there are genocidal robot-spies in the fleet.

It's like his response is, "Yay! A chance to start anew! How fabulous! Now we can do all those things I always thought we ought to do! And um, those robot things, whaddid ya call them? Sirens? Yeah, we should probably come up with a plan about them at some point but that's clearly a lower priority issue than enacting my Great Ideas for Social Reform."

Even on New Caprica after the occupation, we have no idea what he was doing. We know he was going to be executed because he wasn't co-operating with Baltar, but he also didn't seem to be active in the Resistance. Which gives me the, perhaps unfair, impression, that yet again, for him it was all about acceptable radical politics rather than fighting back against GENOCIDAL ROBOTS.

The closest we've gotten to him expressing an opinion on the Cylon is when he formed the Circle, but once again the motivation for Zarek was some bullshit radical political ideology of getting the dirtywork done for Roslin rather than a burning desire to deal with the collaborators.

Especially when we compare all this to his and Meier's attitudes to Athena as a disposable and manageable tool to assassinate Adama during Home I and II, and I really feel that that boy doesn't...I don't know. He's playing with fire, and suddenly he's come over all moralistic about how many months ago those fire extinguishers were safety checked?

Ass.

Though it might be interesting to finally see what Zarek thinks of the Cylon if I believe it's his opinion rather than a convenient political opinion to further his own agenda. Which is the real root of my irritation. Because as things stand it seems that he's making a power play at the worst and most selfish possible time.

And thus ends my unfairly long and assumptive rant about Zarek. If I am wrong about you Mr Zarek, blame those promo monkeys!

Finally, AHAHAHA I saw Saul Tigh dual-wielding guns.

Also Gaeta! Hi Gaeta! You have plot!

Also...no Dee, even though I thought I'd heard she'd have plot.

Also Caprica! No! You're back in the brig! *sigh* But since she's there with Athena and (if I make out that shot correctly, which I may not) Helo, Sam and I think Hera (see screencaps here), and they're discussing a fairly immediate sounding situation, I'm going to guess that it's part of a new crisis and probably won't be a long-term thing. Because I doubt the writers would want to keep four characters - two major and two as major as you can get without being in the opening credits - in the brig for episodes at a time. That brig's not that big. It'd get stupidly crowded.

Still though - that exchange: "They're going to kill us." "Right now they need us alive."

One wonders what they need them alive for. Athena and Caprica aren't members of the final five so it can't be a rehash of Revelations. Perhaps a rehash of part of Revelations and if an alliance between human and Cylon is the point of contention, they're hostages? It would explain where Tory, Tigh and Tyrol are, if they're on the basestar or something rather than just...not having been arrested by the Colonials?

Plus I suppose those three Cylons are pretty key. Sam's one of the final five, Caprica's got the miracle!flipper!baby, and Athena's the first Cylon to have a child, and if I'm right about Hera being in the brig, she's there too.

But bah. I have no idea anymore.

Either way it looks like one of the major issues in S4.5 is a revolt against the crappitude of Earth and Zarek somehow ending up calling the shots in some nutso violent coup/attempted-cylon-killing spree.

ROLL ON JANUARY.

I totally didn't have such a verbose response. I was much more incoherent and "Can it please to be January?" about it.

Have you been sick a lot since you got here? I seem to careen from cold virus to cold virus like a drunken sailor. It's annoying. At least I figured out the floor heating!

Hee. Verbosity is just my way of dealing with...everything actually, now that I'm thinking about it! In this instance, my way of dealing with the fact that it's NOT JANUARY YET. Which I would also appreciate because then I would be almost halfway through my year here. ALAS IT IS NOT SO.

I haven't been sick like this a lot since I got here because this is like...the mother of all colds. That said, it's only the start of the cold season and yeah, I've had a few irritating snuffles and sore throats and I sympathise with the drunken sailor analogy.

I figured it was from working with so many kids?

And YAY UNDERFLOOR HEATING. It is a thing of wonder.

I maintain that the Circle was Zarek's totally fucked up way of flirting. Okay, maybe not, but that makes those scenes way more hilarious. Also, him making a power play at the worst time is just the kind of thing he does, the asshole, and I might be kind of happy that they remembered that.

The dual-wielding Dodge City act is keeling me. It makes me giggle uncontrollably and want to make a crack!vid to a rap song.

Also: LAURA FRAKKING ROSLIN EEEEE! Never. not. awesome. Ever.

*falls over*

GENIUS.

...curse your rationality. It may be good characterisation, but THAT DOESN'T MEAN I CAN'T FIND HIM IRKSOME WHEN HE DOES IT! (Which is weird really, because I like the way he throws a wrench in the works/is a slightly slimy agent of stupid!change at other points. But sometimes he just really...pisses me off. I think it's when he starts blatantly ignoring reality because then it steps over the line to stupid, and stupid is never cooler than smart?)

The dual-wielding Dodge City act is keeling me. It makes me giggle uncontrollably and want to make a crack!vid to a rap song.

HOW CAN I MAKE YOU DO THAT? Like seriously. I would pay you. Well, not in money, or sexual favours, but like...in cookies maybe. Or a vid. Or fic. Or an epic poem. Or something.

I DEMAND CRACKVIDS.

Also: LAURA FRAKKING ROSLIN EEEEE! Never. not. awesome. Ever.

Nothing to add. Just thought it could always bear repeating.

I love to hate Zarek. I also have to confess that his playing with fire without apparent appreciation for the consequences or reality is partially why I wanted to smack Lee over the head this season, whereas I just sort of. . . expect it from Zarek. The asshole. Funny that his idealistic society has a lot to do with him having a lot of power. WHAT A COINCIDENCE. Some pigs are more equal than others. (OMG that should be Zarek's motto).

Two-glock crack!vid is totally on the list. Thank gods I have to wait for all the footage. So far, I count Tigh, Kara and ADAMA HA as wielding double-guns. I do not care if that is not enough basis for a crack!vid, I will make it be enough. You know, eventually. I WILL CONSIDER YOUR ADAMA VID PREPAYMENT IN FULL.

I love that you are analyzing the promo. :)

I've seen L/K shippers squeeing over the kiss, but I didn't see it as romantic. Kara seems to be turned away from him, she turns back and plants one on him, and he looks taken off guard. It could lead to something more, but that could be it. Honestly, I just don't think there is time for a big L/K reunion. And, personally, I preferred the shot of them firing guns side by side. Very cool and I love the buddy dynamic.

My guess is Zarek is leading a coup, Gaeta's a part of it, but Zarek is acting in ways he didn't count on, and the group we see in the brig is there because they are siding with Adama and Roslin.

What ELSE am I supposed to do until January? :p

Kara seems to be turned away from him, she turns back and plants one on him, and he looks taken off guard. It could lead to something more, but that could be it.

Huh - good point, I hadn't considered that. Also telling that I'll examine screencaps for SECONDS on end to work out who's in the brig but can't be bothered to pay attention to...well anything in that scene :p

I guess then, if I had to guess, it might very well go down a little like the kiss at the start of the season. I mean, I actually am still pretty sure we're gonna end up with a K/L endgame, but this could very well be a spur of them moment, "goodbye" or "we're about to do something dangerous" type kiss.

Basically, probably romantic in intention but not necessarily signifying an actual committed relationship is kicking into gear at this point.

My guess is Zarek is leading a coup, Gaeta's a part of it, but Zarek is acting in ways he didn't count on, and the group we see in the brig is there because they are siding with Adama and Roslin.

Yeah, I definitely picked up on the fact that Zarek seems in control of all the politics and Roslin and Lee and Adama are kinda scarce.

I hadn't thought that the people in the brig are there because they sided with Roslin and Adama, though. I'd kind of assumed it was because they were cylons and Zarek was on some anti-cylon binge (well, except Helo but he'd be guilty by association).

Your suggestion is pretty intriguing though...

We were speccing over at SASA that Lee and Kara are both restrained with their hands behind their backs (and that Kara works one free because she's a badass) and that it's a last kiss before we die/they kill us kind of thing.

So uplifting the BSG is.

And Zarek, they should have shot him in the head Season 1. He has never been interesting to me.

Yeah, that jives with what [livejournal.com profile] asta77 was speculating about above too. Certainly it seems a very spur of the moment thing - quite similar to their kiss in 4x02 but with more desperate overtones?

I do find Zarek interesting but...more so when he's not also being stupid because then I just get...irritated at the stupidity and it impairs my ability to find him interesting? I think the problem is I like the idea of Zarek and then find the actual dude lacking because he keeps doing these idiotic and selfish things.

Also, what does SASA stand for? Cus I've heard it around and I believe it's some sort of K/L shipper community? Starbuck/Apollo Shipper Association? Starbuck/Anders Sanity Avoidance? Sam/Apollo Solicitation Arrangement?

one who honestly doesn't seem able to tell whether he wants to be inside the tent or outside it and therefore ends up trying to behave like he's outside the tent while he's inside it

BECAUSE HE'S A MAVERICK!

someone from US politics would be a killer final Cylon crack idea. or Rachel Maddow has been floated as a crossover (mostly so she can have sex with Laura).
