I vidded cartoonz again. It is big and cheesy and I make no apologies!
Also using .mkv files is hellish; pretty, but hellish, and then you have to encode it down to distribution size and it stops being half as pretty. So yes. Hellish and then depressing, that's .mkv vidding for you.
ANYWAY.

Date: 2011-12-28 08:27 pm (UTC)BUT BASICALLY THIS IS ALL MY FEELINGS IN VID FORM. AND I'M HAVING A SLIGHT CAPSLOCKING PROBLEM. YOU MAY HAVE NOTICED.
*deeep breaths* a;sdgd okay so. you are always an incredibly talented vidder, and I just want to watch this FOREVER, and a;sldkhgd the character insight and the moment when you switch between them all sitting there in their chairs so sadly and a;slkhdg;s dkwe tih ROBIN'S ALL OF THE THINGS I'M NOT SECTION oh my god Robin and KALDUR and Artemiiiiis and I'm afraid I'm not really expressing myself very well because FEELINGS and you gave me legitimate feelings about KF which - I don't dislike him I just always find it harder to care about his story arc, which is sad because it's one I could really get into if he weren't such a jerk so much. ANYWAY IT'S IMPRESSIVE. AND FOR THIS DANCE WE MOVE EACH WITH OTHER THAT WAS BEAUTIFUL and just
everything about this is perfect and I love it. <33333333333

Date: 2011-12-29 08:13 pm (UTC)Honestly when I realised I was gonna make this and I might as well stop fighting it, I thought to myself, well, about three people are gonna watch this, but at least one of them is probably gonna REALLY like it. ;)
So thank you for really liking it!
I agree with you about KF. I wish he were less of a jerk in the show so I would care about him more but I'm glad he came across okay in the vid. I wish the show did more about him and his scienceyness - that was an interesting angle for him.
I'm also glad you liked the Robin bit, honestly I feel a bit guilty about Robin in this vid because I think he gets kind of shafted for vid time. It's odd because he's the most name recognised character but before vidding this I didn't realise quite how minor he ends up in the show, while still appearing to be more present? Like his early clash about being leader isn't very clearly visually represented (for vidding purposes) and then he mostly just goes about being his competent self in the background and snarking a bit until the whole MISSION GONE HORRIBLY WRONG thing, which, obvs, is super amazing. But it just surprised me when vidding it to realise that he doesn't really get so many showcase moments, bless his little sunglasses inside. :( So you know, I'm glad I got to give him at least that one in a prominent place in the vid.
/babbling.
Glad you liked it! :D

Date: 2012-01-03 01:28 pm (UTC)I feel like I could really like KF, and I've had several moments in the show when I am like "oooooh" about him and his character arc, mostly as involves Artemis and his total denial and blocking away everything that might bother him EVER and pretending it doesn't exist (KF, that is not how feelings work, please believe me). But he remains such a teenage boy that it is HARD for me to keep caring about him between those flashes.
I totally adore Robin, but I don't actually mind that he doesn't get as much screen time as the others. Like you said, he's already way well known, and I think what we do get of him tends to be very to the point about him and letting the others get their character development, because up until Failsafe Robin didn't really have a character arc? Which is kind of understandable, he's established, he knows the game, and his private life is (mostly) off limits to the team. The thing that I love most about Failsafe and his utterly ruthless leadership (YOU KNEW, YOU KNEW ALL ALONG IT WASN'T A RESCUE MISSION *silence* a;slkdhgd ROBIN) is that it was completely and utterly in character for him. Every decision he made I was like "well, yes, that is exactly what Robin would do" because that is what he has done the whole time, just in much more understated ways.
I JUST HAVE A LOT OF FEELINGS ABOUT THE FAILSAFE FALLOUT FOR ROBIN A;SLDHGDS GSDKLGHS LIKE SO MANY FEELINGS
ALSO FOR M'GANN AND KALDUR OH GOD MY DARLINGS asdghs;d gweituw eI THINK I JUST HAVE A LOT OF FAILSAFE FALLOUT FEELINGS IN GENERAL ACTUALLY
that happens every time I think about it oops
IT IS A SUPER EXCELLENT VID

Date: 2011-12-29 02:28 am (UTC)Oh, man, yes, this is so perfect. LOOK AT THEM. MARCHING ON. ;___; I just want to hug them all foreverrrr.
I had no idea anyone on my flist was even watching Young Justice, let alone MAKING AWESOME VIDTIEMS HAPPEN. So this is basically the best thing. SUDDENLY. YOUNG JUSTICE ON MY FLIST. And, god, whenever I am not looking at it I forget how pretty this show is. IT IS SO PRETTY. Music and visuals and TEEEEEAM and feelings and YES.
Sorry for disjointedness/incoherence. It's just 2 am and I am suddenly full of YJ feels. LOVE.

Date: 2011-12-29 08:29 pm (UTC)Honestly I only started watching Young Justice very recently and while I liked it in a vague sort of way at the start, it really surprised me by getting better as it went on. Like by the end I was all, WAIT WHY DO I FEEL THINGS ALL OF A SUDDEN. So, yes, it totally got me by stealth, all of a sudden. And it really is a very pretty show for vidding.
Also disjointedness is perfectly acceptable - why do you think I vid? When I use words there are too many of them in sentences that never finish. ;)

Date: 2011-12-29 08:37 pm (UTC)I do recommend the show, especially to someone who already likes the Teen Team of Superheroes thing, though I will say that it took me a while to really warm to it. It was never bad, but over the first 18 episodes it goes from being - in my opinion - just okay to being really pretty damn brilliant and heartbreaking in the best way. Unfortunately the schedule is kind of erratic and I'm not sure when new episodes will arrive, but there are 18 so far at 20 minutes each. Oh, also, as you can probably tell from the vid, the line-up isn't totally the same as in the comics either, though there are some familiar faces.
Thanks again for letting me know you enjoyed it!

Date: 2011-12-29 11:12 pm (UTC)Seriously, you are giving me ALL THE FEELINGS. I've been wanting to see a YJ video to this song since I saw the HP video to it. I don't even know how to process everything, I have so many emotions. I was tearing up while watching this and everything. adslfjal;sad;f MY GOD. ♥
Okay, I just want to hug EVERYONE. THE ENTIRE TEAM. Robin and Kaldur and Artemis and M'gann and Superboy and ALL OF THEM. Oh God, Robin and Kaldur and Artemis and all the things they're not, and Superboy and Superman, from the very start with the "like a mistake" part, that was like a punch in the gut. And just all of them trying so very, very, very hard and getting it right but also screwing up horribly, oh my goodness. I don't even know how to deal.
ANYWAYS. This is an awesome, awesome, awesome vid, and you are extremely talented. <333

Date: 2011-12-30 12:33 pm (UTC)I'm glad that even though you had no idea what was going on specifically the general narrative was fairly clear. This is definitely a vid that chooses to be big and shiny and all about ~emotions~ not ~subtlety~ so I'm just gonna put on my hat of ridiculousness and embrace it. ;)
I did have way more fun than I thought I would with the motion though! Usually I feel I rely way more on verbal association than visual linking unless I concentrate very hard on not doing it that way, but this vid was slightly more easy to throw in those linking moments - so I'm glad they showed up. Probably there's just a lot of action/similar visuals in the show, but it made me feel happy because, like you say, I think it helps provide a throughline since the lyrics and visuals are more about emotion and theme than a specific narrative to pull the viewer onwards.
At which point I'm getting pretentious. MASKED SQUARES DANCING AROUND, WOO! :D

Date: 2012-01-06 10:04 pm (UTC)I also have those nostalgic flashbacks. Mainly because it means that I was there with you guys. *kicks real life*
The green girl is Miss Martian and the one wearing the mask is Artemis. She's a totally new character they invented for this show, if I had to guess, because some licensing issue (which has apparently now been resolved, so hopes for season two!) meant they couldn't use Wonder Girl. Artemis as a name seems like a nod to one of Wonder Woman's supporting Amazon characters who is also an archer, but beyond that she seems to have nothing to do with her. She seems to be a cross between Mia Dearden (the second Speedy - Green Arrow's sidekick), Arrowette (mainly just in terms of having the same costume) and Cassandra Cain (in terms of VERY broad strokes backstory).
I'm glad you liked the editing. After watching it I kind of put the moving texture on as an afterthought because I wanted to sort of...commit to doing the whole big, sexy visuals thing, since I had such clear source for it too. I guess it's kind of a Hollywood Blockbuster style of vid. It was fun to make, but I wouldn't want to do it all the time. If only cus of them damn .mkv files. O.O ;)
Also: I wish I could vid comics like you wouldn't believe, but alas, they do not move. :(

I suspect this may be my new vehicle for catharsis now that FNL is off air.

Date: 2012-01-06 10:13 pm (UTC)I recommend watching this show with a few caveats. There have only been 18 episodes so far. It took until episode 6 for me to not be at least mildly irked by something each time and until episode 10 for me to actively start thinking it was pretty good at times, and it wasn't until the most recent three or four episodes that I went holy fuck, that was actually pretty gutsy and awesome for a kids show to do!
Like, the first episode is all boys, Artemis doesn't show up until I think episode 5 (though they do give her a lot of narrative attention once she does show up; I think her and Superboy have had the most so far), and while this might bug me more than you, there are a number of occasions, mostly in the earlier episodes, where I've been kind of eyerolly because I feel the angst in their TEENFIGHT interactions was manufactured so that they could make up only three minutes from the end rather than genuine.
But like I said, it really does improve consistently until you get to the recent stuff and it's just...really surprisingly cathartic and touching and sort of disturbing and genuinely deft character moments. I don't really know what happened but yeah. Like I said, the later stuff is good, though you'll get more out of it if you watch the rather unfortunate stuff that comes first.
So...a qualified encouragement to watch it? Let me know if you do, though!

Have watched it twice and surely there is much more I'm not seeing yet. Definitely will watch again.
