beccatoria: (oh crap!)
Real thoughts and updates and such forthcoming. I liked this episode and decided to cheer myself up by making THIS:

A Cylon Family Tree, because I thought perhaps they might need a chart to keep track of it all. Cut-tag because it's a big image and also because it has...implied spoilers from Someone to Watch Over Me.

It's not REALLY incest, though, if we're GODS, right? )

And now none of you have any excuse to be confused about who is related to whom.

/Public Service Announcement.
beccatoria: (oh crap!)
How wrong is it that I want a Cavil icon that says, "Hell yeah, I'm the motherfucking princess!"

?

Because...he so is. In many, many ways.
beccatoria: (caprica wants it precious!)
So, yeah, I caved and watched it. I was right and it was better to just get it over with. It was both better and worse than I was expecting. Worse because it broke my heart and better, no wait, perhaps also worse because...there was some good, heartbreaking stuff in here but for reasons I cannot narratively comprehend.

Anyway, this isn't a proper review cus I'm basically only talking about one thing.

I'm sure you can all guess what that one thing is. D: )

Also this icon is now officially the saddest thing in the universe. I kind of want to change it, even though I love it, but I have no other Caprica icons.
beccatoria: (zayne gone)
Hi guys -

I'm not home yet but have comandeered a friend's computer briefly.

Thanks to everyone who let me know what the deal was with Deadlock - I really appreciate it though I may not have the time nor the heart to reply individually.

Obviously I'm disappointed for reasons that everyone else on LJ has already articulated. I probably won't be reviewing this one. At the moment I'm not even sure I'll watch it. I might just roll on to next week hope somehow the show makes it up to me. Though, four episodes ago, screw it, one episode ago, my faith in that would have been far stronger.

I've been having a hell of a week(end) and to be honest, I don't have the energy to be angry about this too. So. Whatever.

Just...whatever.
beccatoria: (oh crap!)
I shall be AWAY for the next 4 DAYS. I know, I know, as an internet-powered cylon from the future, this is a dicey choice at best, but I think I should be okay.

I'll probably get online for like ten minutes or something to check my email tomorrow, nominally in case I have Job Info from a Temp Agency, but obviously I have OTHER PRIORITIES.

I'd be really, really grateful if any of you could leave comments to this post after BSG tonight relaying any plot points that you think I'd find awesome/awful/interesting? I don't need extremely detailed blow-by-blows, just a quick summary of things that I'll care about would be awesome?

In some ways this is probably for the best: I'm horribly nervous about this episode so getting people to pre-watch it for me is possibly the best plan anyway.

I'm pretty sure you all know me well enough to know what I care about, but in case, I am specifically interested in the following:

- Cylon Intra-Familial Drama
- Laura Roslin's reclaimation (or lack thereof) of her own awesome.
- Starbuck and that whole thing about how she came back from the dead and whether I'm psychic.
- FLIPPER.

Thank you!
beccatoria: (roslin and headsix are SHOCKED)
So, stepping on [livejournal.com profile] asta77's toes I went ahead and actually listened to the No Exit podcast in hope of getting like, clues about all those crazed mysteries in the episode.

Cut monologue that is...metatextually fascinating. )

More worryingly *WIBBLE* )

ETA: Found a recent interview with Tricia Helfer which makes me feel somewhat less concerned cus apparently she's "very happy" with where Caprica Six is left at the end of the series sooo...I'm maybe slightly less panicked. Or at least more hopeful that there'd be payoff or something. I dunno. I'LL TAKE WHATEVER I CAN GET.
beccatoria: (Samlon!)
Right, proper long rambling review time. It's kinda odd since I've already been over this with most of y'all, but...habits are habits and I haven't said everything I want to say.

Ain't nothin' behind this cut but a summary of what I think the timeline is. )

RIGHT. MOVING ON.

What I actually THINK of the retcon. )

Lee & Laura & Galactica & Adama & wasn't there some kind of mutiny? )

Now. What this episode was REALLY about.

Anders! (And Kara.) )

FLIPPER. I FEAR FOR FLIPPER. )

DANIEL. OMG. DANIEL. OMG. DUDES IF I TURN OUT TO BE RIGHT ABOUT THIS FLIPPING OUT DOESN'T EVEN BEGIN TO COVER IT. )

Cavil & Ellen. OH MY GODS. )

Random Other Thoughts. )

*DEEP HUGE BREATH*

Aaaaaand, I think I'm done.
beccatoria: (roslin and headsix are SHOCKED)
Okay, so I'm getting a lot of people commenting on my previous post (promise, proper review is forthcoming) assuming that I didn't make up something I made up once and like...thinking this episode implied something much more heavily than it actually did as a result.

So, as unspoileriffically as possible so as not to have to cut-tag this:

I totally made that name up for that story.

More explicitly, in case that was too vague: )

I feel oddly egotistical posting this, but, well...everyone seemed to be assuming I got that name from somewhere, and I feel I should be honest that I didn't. Even though in some ways that makes it more freaky.
beccatoria: (starbuck)
OMGWTF they'd better not be messing with me... )

REALLY. SHOW YOU SHOULD NOT TEASE ME LIKE THIS. IT IS CRUEL.
beccatoria: (crossbones)
Warning: Vid-oriented, potentially egotistical naval-gazing follows! :D

BSG is ending, and hopefully I'll get a chance to learn how to vid other shows but at the same time, I really like the idea of my backlog of vids standing as some kind of visual archive of my Battlestar experience, and the more of the show I can filter through my perspective via vids, the better. I especially want this because so much of my love affair with vidding is tied up in my love affair with this show, it seems right to mark it this way.

So I'm looking for help. Suggestions on what I haven't vid-babbled about yet. It's not quite a call for prompts, more a call to identify segments of the show (character-wise, thematics-wise, plot-wise) I haven't said anything about yet. Although any thoughts on what you'd do with that kind of vid would be welcome as they might jumpstart my brain. Because these are probably not going to be things I'm all that comfortable and familiar with, or I'd have vidded them already.

So screw it, yes, I suppose I am asking for prompts, just...prompts I probably will not be fulfilling any time soon as I have other vidding projects; prompts I may not ever fulfill, and prompts I will almost certainly twist to my own nefarious purposes? But if you'd be willing to take a second to say, "Hey, you know what you never vidded?" I'd be totally grateful.

A list of my vids to date and the characters/issues I think they address. At least today; tomorrow I might have changed my mind... )

Things I already know I haven't vidded, but would still like ideas on. )

Halp?
beccatoria: (tigh)
Well, that was okay. Not as good as last week, with some stellar moments and some parts that I think my reading of the show prevents me from fully appreciating.

I will start, as it is always best to do, with Laura Roslin. )

Since I STARTED with the shipping, I might as well own it: Caprica & Tigh & Caprica & Baltar & Tigh & Ellen. )

THE POLITICAL POLITICSES OF TOM ZAREK! )

I imagine you're all dying to know if my bloodthirst has been quenched? )

Random Other Things! )

So, there's that. I liked it. Not as much as last week's and I'm still - and this is painful to admit - getting to grips with Laura Roslin again.

OMG SRSLY PEOPLE WHY ARE YOU ALL STILL ASLEEP SO THERE IS NO ONE TO TALK TO ABOUT THIS EPISODE?

Basically, my entire reaction is that it made me ENORMOUSLY blood-thirsty. I now want like, everyone to die horribly. Next episode. Not because I dislike them or anything. Just because they need to die. But probably I have other thoughts too. I shall try to find them.

Laura is always a good place to start. Let's get the A/R out of the way first. )

And now, Laura: the Awesome Edition (With Added Baltar.) )

The brig is CYLONTACULAR! )

KARA AND LEE! )

LEE! )

SIDETRACK TO RACETRACK! )

KARA! )

The Mutiny, or, The Moment when Galactica became Pegasus and Why I Now Want Death. )

And dammit, really, I don't know what's gotten into me to make me this bloodthirsty.
beccatoria: (starbuck)
I feel weird posting this much. I blame my state of permanently wired hyperactivity which appears to be a bizarre mental response to life being stupidly and pointlessly stressful right now.

The point is. Kara. In which I argue that Kara Thrace IS STILL a Cylon Hybrid! NO RLY! (Spoilers for Sometimes a Great Notion.) )

And now that I've spent far too much time on this, I will go back to my stupid SRS ADAMA VID which is taking about five times longer than ANY OTHER VID EVER because he's such a douchebag.

Help me.

Really.

I'm actually getting worried about myself.
beccatoria: (oh crap!)
Wherein I rag on Bill Adama through the medium of macroz! Also a random comment about the last episode.

SPOILERS for Sometimes a Great Notion, obvs! )

Random Comment about Octagons. )
beccatoria: (tigh)
I should probably wait and let this episode settle before posting my big reaction, but frak it, I don't want to.

The Final Cylon! )

Speaking of D'Anna, if she isn't allowed to be a drunken Israelite, I at least hope that... )

Moving on to:

Kara and Leoben. )

Lee. Will no one give this man a hug? )

Oddly prescient and fleeting thoughts from season two. )

What happened to Dualla. )

Bill Adama: You are a ridiculous human being. Find someone to punch you. )

And OF COURSE I'm going to talk about Laura. )

The APTLY NAMED IT SEEMS Dylan Four. )

In sum, I am proud of my brain's resiliance. )

Oh wait - totally random comment: what was with everyone (i.e. emo extras) suddenly being emo and hanging around in the corridors. They didn't used to do that. Did Galactica shrink or something?

Now I just have to wait for someone to upload next week's trailer onto YouTube because scifi.com won't let me watch it from my location. PERHAPS NEXT WEEK SOMEONE WILL REMEMBER CAPRICA EXISTS.
beccatoria: (roslin and headsix are SHOCKED)
In like, two days, no one will give a shit about these anymore, so I'd better get off my ass and write up my response.

My response goes thusly! )

The Resistance: Boring storyline, but surprisingly good characterisation of Jammer. Managed to say someting in spite of being boring.

Face of the Enemy: Exciting storyline, but surprisingly confusing ending/characterisation. Managed not to say anything in spite of being exciting.
beccatoria: (dexter has a power saw!)
No, really, my pipes froze so I had no water on TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS; also on two separate occasions, angry Korean men yelling things at us. )

On the more positive side, I came home to this:

We Didn't Start the Fire by [livejournal.com profile] chaila43

It's an AWESOME vid. Go watch it. (Warning: it has historical spoilers! But only up to 1990.)

It's an epic cycle-of-time, everything-that's-happened-in-the-show vid. To Billy Joel. It's wonderful. I can't really parse why it works so well, but I'll try. The vidder categorises it as "crack (sort of)" which I think is along the lines of what I call "deadly serious crack".

Sometimes ideas are crazy but work if you commit to them. I think the reason this vid works despite a song choice many would assume could only work for comedy (although there are some hilarious moments. Srsly. Laura Roslin is Elvis. WHO KNEW), is that it underscores the absurdity of, well, everything.

And absurdity is just as good for poignancy as humour.

And yes, I do believe that BSG is absurd. In the philosophical sense that they all live in a world where things just happen and therefore things are meaningless. Which might sound entirely contradictory considering my deep affection for the cycle of time, both in the show and this vid, but I don't think it's contradictory at all. What's more meaningless, arbitrary and absurd than being trapped in a giant cycle of events? Just because it's happened before doesn't empower it with a special gravity of meaning. It doesn't mean it'll count for something extra special later.

Oh. Yay! I think I just found my zen if they decide to do anything truly insane or disappointing in the last half of S4! Also. Again, this will help me handle any and everything to do with Bill Adama.

And now I am finished.
